It all starts with the power to weight ratio. Weight being the key word because it effects everything else. It impacts acceleration, deceleration, cornering and even how a vehicle handles rough roads and undulations.
To quote the quintessential Sports Car designer/builder Colin Chapman;
"Adding power makes you faster on the straights. Subtracting weight makes you faster everywhere!"

I sure hope the Tokyo auto show rumors are true. 2nd gen twins concept, Mazda RX, Mazda EV, honda NSX type R. Let’s hope this is a very exciting year.

The last time I saw the car only the firewall, window frames, roof and rockers were from a 240Z. Check out this 12 year old video of it leading a Dodge Viper around Mosport.

Yeap, because no one ever has put a K or RB engine in

Oh wait, yes they have >

I too have been involed in engine swaps, worse case senario is a hump designed on the bonnet.

With support from toyota it would be as simple as, "lets pick a engine and do it".

"Opinions" may vary

I'm also kind of hoping for stuff out of no where, like a Nissan reveal for next 370(450??) or GTR, now that would be wild considering how out of the spotlight they are right now.

If you read any of those you would know that much of the bickering is because some people believe the rumours and others say they are bullshit. There is NOTHING of any official standard to say ANY of the rumours are true.

Bloody peasant.

... It all starts at a return on investment algorithm, but I'm sure power to weight is a metric they use.

Sorry mate, my intent was misunderstood

My point was if a workshop can fit it in, a manufacturer, can.

Would it require substantial engineering, yeap, but isn't that what's happening anyway if they swap out the powertrain and/or drivetrain like people are talking about.

It isn't rocket science, and Toyota and Subaru have been releasing new models that pass all required standards for years, it's not like they are 3 guys in a garage with a welder and a budget.

Anyways, all this is wishful thinking, I'm not convinced there will be a major change, or one that the small % of people actually want.

That's if they keep them in production, they only fit into a small niche market, kids and older people without kids, typical to the MX5.

The AE86 only lasted 5 years

Maybe they should have called it the Celica, that lasted 30 + years with 7 different variants, with different engines and drivetrains.

Will it end up like the second run of Silvia's that lasted around 25 years???

Will Nissan release the new Silvia, like people keep talking about?

In the end, at this stage, no-one really knows

Speculation is a interesting bird to watch

Nissan needs to release a new Silvia so badly, and a new Skyline GTR, and a new Z car. They have a lot of work to do. lol Unfortunately their economic situation will probably keep all of those dream cars from happening.

A 2nd gen for the twins is such an interesting topic for us of course, and all car nerds. Will Toyota and Subaru go big with this? Or will it be small improvements? Or will our beloved twins be finished? My heart hopes for the first option, but Toyota can be so conservative. And I feel like Subaru has always been “along for the ride” even though they developed the vast majority of the BRZ/86. The new Supra is a bold statement from Toyota, as much as most of us don’t like the underlying BMW dna. So there is always hope.
