Looks are subjective, yet I agree that the Jaguar looks nice, and under Tata ownership, the brand is doing much better, but the Porsche is hard to beat, especially for reliability over Jaguar. I think Jaguar is getting better though.

I think there are many rules to aesthetics.

Aesthetics is on some bell curve or something, where many people might agree on a particular feature looking good, but then others might find it ugly or gorgeous. Take the Porsche 911, many people would say it is a good look car, but a certain few find them gorgeous and a certain few think they look like flattened VW Beetles. This subjective quality to design is why we have so many different brands.

If you are going down the R8 path, get a 2010+ build date R8 which should address the frame cracking issue. Definitely a gated manual if you can, the R-tronic is a sloppy transmission now.

But from your list, I went on a mountain run recently with a 718 Boxster GTS, and that car really surprised me how incredibly good it is with a manual box. I vote for the Cayman GTS if you can get a great deal on it.

Your 'Labour' observation may explain why the UK is overrun with German cars...

dude.... so many. what's the saying about having to many choices? some throey about an animal starving because it wouldn't know what to eat first....

this is part of the appeal to me for some of these cars and why I hesitate with any Corvette.

no telling. That's why I'm going to wait until I get to drive them to find out.

Extra cooling?
For me the biggest catch with this car is the unproven DCT... could be an Achille's heel. Or it could be just fine...
yes to all of those things and getting in on the first production run or close to it for any car worries me. hell I just had to replace my clutch because my throw out bearing was about to explode and being at almost 60k miles I wasn't about to break it open again in 6 months to do the clutch. had I bought it later I probably wouldn't have had that TOB problem.

I used to have a Mitsu 3000GT VR4. I ain't skerd!

the appeal the AMG has are it's looks although not the best of the group I do like it along with the power and performance but with that comes the extra space. we wouldn't have to take her Yukon every time we want to go to the mountains or the beach for a weekend.

By far the safest choice: the Cayman.
probably.

the biggest downside to is is space. it's basically Super BRZ. I don't mind it even though it is a bit tight for me but the GF hates getting in and out of it.

Jag F type? Meh. Unless of course you are hunting for cougars...
single me would be 100%. not gonna lie, I miss the "hunt".

no doubt about this at all. pure sex on wheels. the first time I saw one I almost snagged a V6 just to have one to look at everyday.

what I like about the looks of the Porsche is what I don't like about them. they all sorta look the same unless you spend $120k+ on a GT3 or something.

^Mid-Engine F-Type replacement is vaporware. That linked "story" is a year old and there hasn't been anything factual released about such a car. Combine that with Jaguar barely hanging on financially, and yeah...not gonna happen.

I didn't vote in your poll, b/c for some reason you listed the C8 as a ZR1 (?)

But I'd vote this way:

1) 2016 Cayman GTS/GT4 (to hell with the 4 banger crap)
2) C8 Z51 Stingray (other than no manual what's not to love?)
3) Supra (same reason as above)
4) AMG C63 S (latest coupe is sexy and that engine is ridiculous)
5) Jaguar F-Type V8 (sexy as hell and that V8 is amazing; car is a little dated though)
6) GT350 (amazing car, but pretty large - and sadly looks very similar to 30+ other Mustangs you'll see every day)

I voted F-type but I probably should've thought about it more and suggested a used Evora. I know it has a bad rep as the "big" or "heavy" Lotus, but I'm a bigger guy and it's the only one I'm likely to be able to sit in comfortably. I also actually prefer the exterior to the others simply because they are way too aggressive for my taste. The Evora is my "expensive but still possibly attainable" dream car for sure and it definitely slots in with what you have listed so far.

a typo on my part. It should have said Z51 like you have listed.

edit: I see you had a GS-R. I had a 94 back in the day. intake, header, exhaust, lowered(springs/shocks), front lip kit and a nice tune. Red on black ahhhh, those were the days.
