Not Cranking, Possible rod knock moments before?

Hey Everyone,

looking for some help troubleshooting my vehicle.

I recently installed a Harrop Supercharger on my 13 FRS and was still in the process of tuning it. Got the OK to do a 2k-redline WOT pull the other day, however immediately after this the engine started making a noise that grew with rpm. I pulled over to see if i could hear anything and the car died before I came to a stop.

I started it up again but didn't hear any noise at idle, but as soon as I got going again I heard noise above about 2k and then it died again the next time it dropped to idle.

from now after it refuses to even crank. I turn the key, hear a click (I'm assuming the starters engaging) and all the dash lights and radio go out.

so far I've checked the battery and fuses. I have doubts its the starter system because it did crank earlier.

One last odd note is that when i turn the ignition on i don't get any tach sweep

any advice you guys have would be awesome

Thanks!

Before you part it out, I suggest you have the battery "load tested" at a shop, if you haven't already done so.

Is it the original battery?

Did your 13 have the spring recall done recently?

Check your battery!!! Not just to see if it is there, I mean put a jumper pack on it and see if that fixes it.
It may also be wise to check your grounding straps, if you're on stock motor mounts, the excessive movement could have torn one/both and is now causing issues.

Hey everyone,

Had a lightweight battery in there and swapped it out for an full sized one, it did turnover on two different attempts, the second time my buddy's head was in the engine bay and according to him it "sounded like either belt squeal or metal on metal"

Had the valve spring recall preformed right about as soon as I could have. I do run an oil temp/pressure gauge off the sandwich plate and I had noticed that oil psi seemed to be a little higher (10psi) than normal, although idk if any sort of blockage from sealant would show up at that point in the system. I have actually changed my oil twice since the recall and neither time was there any sign of sealant or debris in the old oil.

still one of the oddest things is the lack of a tach sweep when switching on the ignition. I'll rummage around and see if i can check my motor mounts and any grounds.

Thanks for the suggestions and help, I very much appreciate it

Sorry for the confusion, with the new battery it did turnover but didn't light off just sputtered and died imidately. It did this twice and now it's back to nothig happening except a click when I turn the key

Hopefully that makes sense

Hey everyone,

I found one of my cam timing solenoids loosely connected and it ended up breaking off in my fingers, just curious if anyone knows what kind of symptoms this would cause?

thanks!

I would guess a rough running engine with low power.
