Stock springs with cut bump stops?

There's about a half inch of suspension travel before you engage the bumpstops and with <200# springs that half inch disappears pretty damn quick.

I don't see any real advantage to cutting the bump stop. The suspension is designed around using it in most cornering. It's a progressive spring system, and a pretty good one at that.

It's designed to corner on the bumpstops. They have their own spring rate and progression.

Depending on how you cut the bumpstops (such as cutting from the softer or stiffer end), you change the overall spring/bumper system in different ways. But they're designed as a complete unit.

Interesting. I’ve done bad spring selections on other cars and ended up riding the bumps and it was obvious and handled like trash. I didn’t realize the Twins road the stops by design. My Integra was twitchy and unpredictable on the stops. Then again the stops on that car were rock hard compared to the ones on the FRS. If I didn’t have the dust covers on I’d throw some zip ties on to see how far they climb just out of curiosity.

It's a trend over the last 20 years for cars to use be more bumpstop active, and so the initial progressions of the bumpers are relatively soft and it's difficult to feel when you start getting into them. That's also why cutting just the soft part of the bumpers may not provide the effect people want.

I have a theory as to why manufacturers are doing this but just a theory.
