When it gets down to cranking out the numbers, one could probably get the same performance out of a slightly thicker, conventional panel but that would detract from other design goals. It's just not a sunroof chassis, and I love the purposeful design.

You know, there was a point in my life when I could do those calculations by hand. Aircraft structures is all about stressed skin calcs. Can't even remember where to start nowadays.
