Yes, it does. I have a 2014 BRZ Limited. The washer that sits behind the cotter pin does not fit as the entire linkage assembly is slightly narrower than stock when measured from the pin slot to the outer face of the bushing. I haven't noticed any issues without this washer/spacer and I am not sure if this is something other people have experienced or if my particular part was drilled slightly off or if I'm just an idiot / not strong enough.

My stock shifter had been out once before to do a throw out bearing and I did notice the washer was slightly bent and had a lot of witness marks on it making me think the poor mechanic who wrestled with it barely got it back on to begin with. I tried to lightly tap the washer back into shape but it was all for nothing as after an hour of fiddling with it, my hands were starting to seize up and I dropped it between the carpet and the transmission tunnel. So now I will have a new rattle to replace the one I'm getting rid of with the new shifter.

Also, the boot is a royal pain. Most people seem to complain about getting the shifter end into the small hole but I found that wasn't too hard. Getting the accordion side hole over the linkage without puncturing it on the cotter pin is a real b. I ended up killing the new boot and reusing my old one that had been strategically cut by my very experienced Subaru mechsnic. It's an important boot, IMO; seems to help protect the shifter linkage from rust and dirt.

STI shortshifter is an advertised 4mm difference.

I don't know.........how does this compare to Kartboy, or who ever has their name on them now, FT86SF, 28.5%?

My crappy math has that at about a 5% difference with the STI item over stock.

My math was based on my 3rd to 4th shift which was 85mm.

85-4=81/85×100=5% ish

My crappy math (again) gave the 28.5% Kartboy a 19mm ish difference in throw over stock.

Or the STI short shifter is crapola compared to the Kartboy.

I've been looking at getting a Kartboy/FT86SF item, I had one on my STI, excellent bit of kit, been looking at a few, this is the first time I've looked at the STI SS, my math has got to be off.

A 4mm difference, if this is correct, is a laugh.

School me good, or I'm buying a Kartboy/FT86SF one for half the price with nearly 5 times the throw.

Disclaimer: I finished work early and have had a cold beverage, or two, my math may be fatally flawed.

Don't purchase the FT86 version. It has multiple issues that they fail to address and it makes the throws considerably more difficult. It rattles at all RPMs, the reverse lockout ring strikes the bolt heads of the shifter plate, I had to clean up poorly machined holes to even install the part.

Only bad thing I've read about the kartboy is the rattles. Someone posted on here the other day that using tape/heatshrink on the reverse lockout spring will fix the rattles.

STI part may not be a large reduction in throw length, but you would not have the above issues and would still be able to use aftermarket reverse lockouts.

I test drove my car with the factory shifter. Had the STI shifter installed by the dealer before I took delivery of the car. Would highly recommend this mod. Not sure how it compares to other short shifters out there but it’s a vast improvement over stock. Notchy, direct, and perfect throw length. It’s not an s2000 shifter, but nothing is..
