I've been filling at ARCO first (stopped) and filled at Valero (didn't do much) and then 76 (still there).
Will have to check out Shell.
If shell works, I will grab their gas card lol

Has anyone heard of, or tried this: http://www.marvelmysteryoil.com/index.php/site/mmo/

On some other forums folks talked about using that with great results (not in this particular vehicle), and it seems purpose built for fuel system cleaning and lubrication. Claims to be safe enough to add at every fill-up (4 oz per 10 gallons).

EDIT: Nevermind, I see Marvel was discussed a few pages ago. To the person that brought it up - did you every try it and if so what were the results? I may give it a shot out of curiosity...that is, after I try the Shell gas theory out.

I've got 1400 miles on my car and got the car 2 weeks ago. Yes, I have a long commute to work everyday...

I don't hear it when I'm in the car but when I pop open the hood, I can hear a slight chirping sound. Very minute but you can tell it's there.

The only problem with that is the specification is also a mystery.
You need a high spec oil with very low ash content. Safer with 2T and it's been proven to work with much lower quantities than that.

Chevron and Shell are pretty damn good gasolines.
I for sure would not run Shell gas in this car! i take it you have never had a car tuned! I know some tuners like church tell you not to fill up with Shell gas and i personally would never run ARCO (AM/PM) gas in any of my cars because i have seen performance cars ping with bad gas from ARCO.

FYI: for you all putting oil in the gas this can void any warranty you have. I would never fix your car under warranty if i drop the tank and find oil floating around in the gas. let Toyota deal with this because why chance voiding your warranty.

But I think my chirping noise went away.
I had chirping noise for over 600 miles.
I was hearing it every trip.
As long as the road is smooth and I'm in neutral at idling RPM, I could hear it even at 50 mph.
But once I switched from Chevron to Shell, I didn't hear the noise for the last 2 trips.
I hope it stays this way forever
Curious...what octane grade were you using from Chevron?

Shell gas worked for me, but may not make a difference for everyone. I believe ethanol content is the key. In this part of Canada, Shell premium has no ethanol added. I will need to fill up today, so I will try going back to the 94 octane ethanol blend, and add 2oz of 2-stroke oil to a full tank. We'll see what happens.

I don't think that 2 teaspoons of oil would be 'floating' on the gas. If it is 2 cycle oil it would mix right in with the gas and you'd never even see it.

What ever happened to the guy who posted that the dealer was ordering $1,000 in parts to fix the problem?

What should void the warranty is using fuel that's not up to the specification that this car was designed for.
As White64Goat points out, 2T is designed to disperse in any fuel, even diesel.

Some of you just don't seem to understand that others are trying to help with this problem, by offering a solution until Toyota/Subaru can engineer and install the fix.

As mentioned before, 2-stroke oil blends completely with gasoline. You'd have a hard time even telling it was ever there. You'd find ethanol deposits before finding good quality 2T oil -- especially at the 1:1000 ratio that we are talking about. Using such a small amount will have zero ill effects on a modern vehicle.

I have almost 3k miles on my frs
I have noticed this noise from day I took delivery of the car
It only occurs once the motor is warmed up
I took my frs into 3 dealerships to look at it
the first (stupid idiots at stevens creek toyota service dept) wanted to keep my car
the 2nd dealer just looked at it & I drove off
& yesterday I went to walnut creek toyota & they informed me that this noise
is normal for the secondary direct injection fuel delivery system

if you listen carfully you will notice the sound coming from the top left side of the motor
(left side if you are sitting in the car) the sound is from under the black metal cover the direct injection system. at the moment I have been told that this noise in considered normal, but this assertion may change any day

Both Chevron and Shell are 92 octane here. It still doesn't chirp with Shell gas

So i am hearing mixed statements from different dealers.

1. This is an issue with the fuel pump and the washer inside.
2. It is a normal sound from the direct injector system.

Is there any way we can get an official statement from Toyota/Subaru? Does anyone know a person that can get this?
