Well it has so far in my car. I exclusively used chevron since I bought it and got the crickets. I'm on my 2nd tank of Shell and no crickets.

I think the Shell V Power gas theory is thoroughly unfounded in the USA.

I have ran nothing but Shell V Power (in CA, USA) since day 1. 2400 miles in and I have had crickets for most of that. Doesn't happen every time I drive the car, but at least once a day.

The noise is an indicator that something is wrong. The fact that it's got louder isn't a good omen.
Have you taken it to the dealer yet?

There are a few people wetting their pants at the thought of adding a splash of lubricant into the fuel, although it seems pretty clear the lack of lubrication in the fuel is the problem. The same people have no doubt casually thrown injector cleaner etc in their tank in the past with no thought as to what was in the container.

It's already been shown that as little as 1000:1 using a high grade 2T oil shuts it up within 30sec of starting up.

How about someone trying 10ml[2 teaspoons] before filling up for 5000:1 to see if that works too?

Diesel and rotary engines have been fed 2T in much higher quantities for years with sound logic behind the practice and beneficial results.

Hopefully they will soon modify the fuel systems to suit the lower grade fuel in other countries less fortunate than Japan.

I think different region in the US has different additives even on the same brand of gas.

Well, went to a pure gas station that sells "VP Racing Fuel", but doesn't pump it. I had driven there on E and forced to buy Citgo brand 93.

No luck, was really looking forward to a ride home in silence.

But I think my chirping noise went away.
I had chirping noise for over 600 miles.
I was hearing it every trip.
As long as the road is smooth and I'm in neutral at idling RPM, I could hear it even at 50 mph.
But once I switched from Chevron to Shell, I didn't hear the noise for the last 2 trips.
I hope it stays this way forever

I took my car to the dealer today cos I noticed the sound myself... They had never heard it before.. Mine only just started doing it, it has 600kms on it.. They showed their demo car with 1800kms on it, and no cricket noise..

One POSSIBLE correlation is, yesterday I filled up on 100 octane, with 10% ethanol.. I recall reading someone said that could be a possible cause?

I had the chirping noise since right after I bought the car with only 10 miles on it and it got pretty loud about a week ago but since then it's been gone completely. My car only has around 630 miles on it and as far as gas the only two times i've had to fill up i've used valero and from the time the noise got loud and completely vanished i've been on the same tank of gas.
