everyone keeps telling me how easy it all is but so far I'm failing to see how that's possible.

in order to "re-learn" something I would have had to had known how to study before. This is the firs time in my life that I've "studied".

I was the same way. I got decent grades in school without putting for much effort and then dropped out of highschool in grade 11 at age 17 to join the Army. My trade in the Army required no real studying so I never really learned effective study methods. When I went back to school at age 32 it was rough for a bit but eventually I caught on.

Well it says it is not malware in capital letters so there is no way it could be.

I just can't remember chit. I'll read something, understand it and it less than a minute totally forget what I read. I need that pill from the movie Limitless.

I have to write stuff down to remember it. Even if it is a brief illegible note. Don't know why but it helps me

The act of writing it is what helps not the written note it self.

Welp, OK, learning how to study.

I went through 4 years of undergraduate school before I "learned how to study" when I started taking graduate courses.

The secret (for me) was to learn how to "read the professor". Where was his/her passion for the subject - study that part of his/her lectures for the first test.

For the rest of the tests, in addition to the first hint, analyze where the instructor is getting the majority of the questions for the tests (lecture, reference materials, lab, or text books) and focus on that area.

If that fails, during the test, sit next to an Asian girl - and copy off of her -

We get fires as well.
Had an earthquake a few years back. It almost made a picture on the wall hang crooked. Almost.
