Just ordered PTuning Flex Fuel Kit now what?
Greetings,
Purchased the PTUNING Flex Fuel Kit v2 I've never tuned the car. Stock EVERYTHING except for a Catback Exhaust + HKS drop in air filter + Stage 1 Exedy Clutch I would have pulled the trigger on the PTUNING Header but they were out of stock ... Goals are E85 obviously... More power... How much is a Tune going to run me? (roundabout figure) (I don't have ecutek stuffs) Should I buy Injectors? Which kind? CC's? Oil Change? Fuel pump? What header? Overpipe/frontpipe? Seems like the majority of people on the forums are using the OFT tunes for E85 so most of the posts are geared towards OFT. Seeking assistance ![]() Thanks! |

EcuTek License: $350 Stage 1 Base Tune /w Flex Fuel (a.k.a. "Digital Tune"): $300 Custom Dyno Tune (Optional): Add $600 to Base Minimum total: $1000 All New. Up to $1500 if you want to go to a shop for a custom Dyno Tune You don't need Fuel Pump and Injectors unless you're going Forced Induction. Nothing has to change regarding Oil. Just use API SN /w Resource Conservation or better oil for updated ethanol compatibility. Headers, depends on you. How you want the car to sound, how much you want to spend, what performance goals are you looking for. OP/FP. Similar to headers. |

Good to know I won't be needing to shell out extra money for a fuel pump and injectors... You're saying API SN with Resource Conservation ?? #Confused what is this? ![]() Also, I've never even ventured into the world of Ecutek. EcuTek Dongle + Deskey: $350 New EcuTek License: $350 Stage 1 Base Tune /w Flex Fuel (a.k.a. "Digital Tune"): $300 This option you're mentioning is a do-it-yourself tune using a labtop I'd assume? #noobcity |

For example, if you buy Castrol Edge 0W20 off the shelf today, it would conform to API SN. https://www.castrol.com/en_us/united...trol-edge.html Quote:
All the dongle+Deskey does is allows you to interface with the car. You can borrow someone's dongle if you want to save $350. You still need your own license. Sometimes, tunes are locked to a specific dongle as well. You can go to a shop and use their dongle. However, this also assumes that you're going to be buying the shop's tunes and relying on them for revisions. (Most shops aren't going to lend you their dongle to load someone else's tune). |

Header depends on budget and expectations. ACE header is the best hands down. JDL is probably best bang for buck all around. Can’t go wrong with either.

I want to pull the trigger on a header... I'd buy the PTUNING if it was in stock w.o question since I'm ultimately going with their kit for the Turbo ... but they're out of stock...next best thing? I dont believe ACE is an option as it comes with an overpipe attached which'll conflict with ptuning turbokit? Anyways I ordered Delicious Tuning package for $1050. Stage 1. Was informed if I get a header they'll sell me stage 2 for $75 sooo hopefully I did the right thing. $620 for pruning flex fuel kit $1050 for ecutek + tune My next oil change I should buy which exact oil? I'll be running strictly e85 I'd say. I live in southern california and it's summer up n coming. |

Secondly I was referring to the jdl 4-1 catless header which goes for about 850$ for EL and 750$ for UEL. Although the 4-2-1 is still solid but costs a bit more. And ace has same “fitment” issue which isn’t even an issue it takes literally 15seconds to fix. But like I said ACE is best overall. and JDL 4-1 EL would be my more budget minded pick. But getting any real NA power costs $ so I wouldn’t skimp on a header. And thirdly don’t get hung up on the actual number but look at the % increase and % increase of area under the curve. Too many people get hung up on a peak number. “This header made 200whp its the best” but they don’t factor in it came From a 176who baseline and it barely had any increase for most of the entire powerband just a 5k-7400k peak bump. 155 to 180 is 20% increase. 176 to 200 is a 14% increase. Don’t compare whp numbers compare percentage increases over baseline. |

Holding off on the header for now until ptuning manufactures one again ... hate having to wait but it looks like it's the best performance header w.o the overpipe addition like ACE has... |

Ptuning is a great header though for sure, when i was shopping i narrowed it down to ACE, PTuning, and JDL. was almost sold on JDL then thought well for a little more i could just get PTuning, then was sold on Ptuning and then thought well for a little more i could just get ACE 250B... so ended up with that. Any of those three would be great options. |
