Yep, my 1948 Chevrolet had an emergency brake lever like that. When trying to slow a car down, one had to remember to keep the trigger squeezed while pulling it … or the back end of the car would become the front end -

I used to go thru SF with my 1970 Jeep Gladiator, MT with foot ebrake while pulling a camping trailer crossing the Golden Gate heading north to hunt. I don't remember ever using the ebrake. I've never driven a car with hill assist.

I feel like hill assist isn't necessarily to prevent the driver from stalling out,but to prevent from hitting the asshole that's two inches from your bumper when you lurch backwards when launching.

I don't believe that my 2013 FR-S has that capability.

I just roast the tires. Whats the point of having a rwd sports car if you don't get to remind everyone else how boring their cars are from time to time?

Why not just set the clutch to the engagement point before letting off the brake? It's the same thing as using the handbrake, except you're eliminating an unnecessary step and slipping the clutch less.
