Anyone planning HAC (Hill Assist) retrofit?
Hi Guys,
I found out about this technology when I went on my recent trip to Ireland. I rented a car (Ford Fiesta 2015/16 base model), and noticed that when I was on a hill, and when I release the brake while engaging the clutch, the car will not slide backwards, at first I thought it was my awesome clutching, but then I tested and realized it was HAC.. Now my question is, for a such economy car and it was able to have this feature, should it be easy to do a retrofit to our cars? I know the 2017s will have them, so wanted to see if anyone has already done/planning to to a HAC to prior 2017 models.. I am interested! Thanks, |

Not really.
I figure that anyone that needs that on a car, should have gotten a car with an automatic transmission. ![]() humfrz |

TBH I would still love that feature for when I'm stuck in traffic on a hill. But no, never thought of even looking for a retrofit.

I bet it is way more expensive to retrofit than you think. It's a cute feature but I wouldn't pay $ for it.

yea, just thought if a base fiesta has it, shouldn't be expensive to put one in. As much as i like the challenge, I just don't have the typical commute with that type of road conditions; but on the rare occasion that i end up in SF stuck on a hill in traffic, I don't like risking it.

I imagine it is like cruise control or something. Cheap and easy for the manufacturer to add a switch and program the ECU for it. But a bit more involved if you trying to DIY.
Funny enough the Genesis R Spec with no cruise control was the biggest turn off to me about that car

It possible it could all be done with software using existing hardware however I doubt anyone is going to spend the time to hack the ABS system and write code for engine and ABS/VSC control units, and it likely a legal minefield to alter ABS safety system code to get it to apply brake when 0 speed detected and clutch depressed, then release on throttle clutch released and speed above zero. |

I remember reading about this feature on older subarus, they were a mechanical system and people would sometimes have the problem of the brakes not releasing when they should, or getting stuck.
One less thing to break, less complicated, etc. etc.
