Well, if a dealer is that crooked, they would most likely be out of business by now. I reckon you could always go into the dealership and take a peek at your car while it is torn down.

Several folks have had the recall work done - just look through some of these valve spring threads.

It appears that most of them have been satisfied with the work.

Doubt that would happen. I would be more concerned that they screw something up and a great running car now has issues.

I've stopped by during the process., I've seen my engine on the engine stand, even touched it...doubt they would pull it out, if he didn't plan to fix it

Right - how my new engine is affected - I get that...although I called Toyota and they actually told me to just bring it in to the dealer seemingly because they didn't or couldn't figure out where the refurb engine came from. My question was actually if they would consider actually admitting that my engine grenading could be from this valve spring problem...well after talking to Toyota again more...they will not.

Also, I don't know if it's been said, but "engine stall" is the simplest way they can phrase it in a way that everyone understands.

The consequences of a valve spring failing is yes, the engine stalling...

... Because a spring failed, the keepers popped out and the valve dropped in the cylinder, allowing it to contact the piston resulting in catastrophic engine damage.

But as I said, even if the vin on your car's body is involved in the recall, your replacement engine isn't.

For these kind of things, the dealers likely will be required to "bag and tag" and possibly ship back parts removed as part of the process in order to get paid, or they have to hold on to them until their regional rep comes around and gives them the ok.

I know we have to keep parts for "x" number of days after our claims are paid. If our rep comes around and does a warranty audit and the parts are missing, they debit back our warranty claim. We submit our "recalls" as part of the warranty. Likely the auto world does the same.

I have a friend that is a tech at Acura and he had a room full of parts because they had to hold onto stuff for 3 months before scrapping. Every few months he would call me over to go through the stuff to see if I wanted anything. I got a transmission and short block through him along with other smaller parts. The short block was in there because some kid over revved and flooted the valves but the block was fine. The transmission needed a little rehab but I was able to get it running with minimal cost. I wish I had a hookup like this at Toyota or Subaru.

Free or did you have to pay core costs? I know you can get oil consumption issue LS engines from the GM dealer for $2-$500 depending on which engine it is. My buddy bought a LS7 this way.

Has anyone done a base dyno before the valve spring recall work and then afterwards , to check if the new springs provide less power?
Just my ocd brain working , instead of sleeping!

My understanding is they are same specification springs, just ones that should not break\fail during normal service life of engine.

1 month and 413 miles after recall work, my car started to make noises. 4 miles after that, the car started misfiring and knocking. Getting towed to dealer to have my engine replaced.

Is the dealer paying for the new motor? I have an appointment to take mine in tomorrow, reading stuff like this freaks me out. My car just hit a 100k miles and it has always run perfectly.

I will assert myself until they pay to replace the motor. The recall comes with a warranty. I have plenty of documentation to suggest the car was in excellent condition pre-service (including a Blackstone Labs engine oil analysis).

I'm willing to bet they put too much RTV and an oil passage got blocked. I can't give advice, because the same techs that did my car won't be going yours. Go with your gut.
