We have large bumps in my neighborhood back in Bakersfield. In my dads 85 Corvette I just push in the clutch and roll over them using the break as needed and letting it back out once I'm over. Or just go over them in 2nd.

I try to time speed bumps so my front wheels are hitting the bump as I'm shifting into 6th...works like a charm.

That's a real 'phuck fysics' moment.

Can you give us a video tutorial?

As stated before in this thread, double-clutching is your friend...and your transmissions friend. Practice, practice, practice. You'll have it down in no time, and will be doing it without thinking about out.

This is what I've always done. I don't think I've ever taken one in second. Apparently I creep over speed bumps like a slug.

2nd. Unless they're really stupid speed bumps. But for your average speed bump 2nd and 5mph. Won't have to play with the clutch or anything. The gearing is such that you wont have to worry about stalling at all even if you coast in 2nd at that speed.

How about lugging ? the engine makes a lot of noise at that speed in 2nd gear...until about 2000 rpm and thats if you feathering the gas pedal.

I just roll over in 2nd gear and slip and clutch. I also do this when turning around a round about when I don't have to stop and down shift to 1st before entering. Is this the right way ?

I don't know any other way than to slip the clutch when i'm slowing down and the rpm goes below 2k in 2nd gear and I can't downshift to 1st gear.

Feathering works sometimes but it's annoying having to turn your music real low and have the windows down to hear if your giving to much load.

I'm new to MT as well. I was recommended to pop it into second right before the bump, and continue to hold the clutch in while going over the bump. As you exit the bump, release the clutch, give it some gas, and drive off.

Remember, having your clutch ALL the way in does not put any stress on it. You're probably looking through a lot of online tutorials and whatnot like me and many of them seem to indicate that you're still wearing down the clutch if it's all the way in. From what I've been told, it's not true. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong...

I go hard on the brakes (almost to a complete stop) then blip the throttle in first and give it a quick clutch kick to unload the front tires just as they contact the speed bump, I then go hard on the brakes again to unload the rear tires just as they make contact.

...But seriously, I envy all you guys that can take speed-bumps at more than 10 as the ones in my area are similar to mounting a damn curb. I usually come to a complete stop and crawl over as slow as possible. Fuck traffic flow, I have too much mechanical sympathy for my chassis, bushings, and shocks.

You can safely go below 2k rpm in 2nd gear. The noise you hear isn't going to cause damage. I suggest you play around in a parking lot with letting the car get all the way down in gear to the point where the engine is pushing the car along at idle to know how slow you can go in 2nd gear. Then ease on the gas to learn how to make the "lugging" minimal.

Can you tell me where the noise is coming from and if I can reduce the noise ?
