Tread depth and tire age are significant factors in road noise and comfort too. New tires will almost always be quieter and more comfortable than anything used.

I didn't see it mentioned, but winter tires are also made of a MUCH softer rubber compound, which also greatly contributes to their quieter operation, regardless of the sidewall stiffness.

You are correct; but only if they are non-studded winter tires... Studs are LOUD!




OP.


So, the Primacy is a LRR (Low Rolling Resistance) tire; they should be fairly quiet because of this fact. Resistance = Noise


I would suggest trying the Michelin AS3 for a quiet tire.

Pilot sport on 225/45/17 is pretty quiet due to softer rubber + thicker sidewal... O.o
