It is a bit difficult to offer any real advice when your location is "??" and the way such things are handled varies by region. In PA, you could contest the ticket and will have a meeting with an officer before going in to the courtroom. You'd be right that they're mostly after the money, so if you explain that you're worried about insurance, and are polite and respectful, the officer would likely re-write the ticket as a non-moving violation, which shouldn't affect your insurance rate (again, depending upon provider and state). Then they'll get paid and you won't have to worry about insurance.

Or just pay the ticket, take your lump, and move on. If your insurance goes up significantly from a 5 over ticket, shop around for new insurance. If you've had the same provider for more than a few years, there's a somewhat decent chance you'll end up paying less with the ticket than you are now without.

That's ridiculous. What's even more ridiculous is someone's insurance goes up because of 5 mph. What a scammy world we live in. And they ask me why I don't wanna have kids.

That's how they get you out of any fines/points/classes. Every city has law firms like this. You don't need a top law firm to do this for you.To be honest, I don't even think the lawyers go to the courtroom, I think they send their interns and their purpose in life is to stay there all day doing hundreds of these tickets.

My advice is to get a radar detector (Uniden R3) and download Waze on your phone to alert you to reported cops/hazards.

Good luck bro.

whats even more worse is that the average speed limit in the suburbs/city in oregon is 30 - 35 mph.....

I'm sorry, but that brings to mind a back-in-the-day story -

It was a cool evening in Danville, CA, when my 8 month pregnant wife started having labor pains. No worries, I thought, the planned delivery by Caesarean section was not for two weeks.

Well, the baby wasn't going to wait. I dumped the other child at the neighbors and loaded my screaming wife up in my MGB, jumped on the freeway, and headed for the designated hospital in Los Gatos, about 50 miles away.

We made it in record time (later calculated to average over 100 MPH - all freeway) with horn blaring and lights flashing. Not a cop in sight the whole trip to escort us -

We made it just in time. After a night in the hospital and wife and new son were stabilized, I headed home. Yep, about half way home a CHP pulled me over for speeding and wrote me a ticket. I mumbled under my breath - where in the hell were you last night when I needed you -

THE END

I feel you. In Eugene OR there are 20mph signs all over the city that everyone ignores. If I go 20mph; I get get passed like I am standing still.

Indicated.
Just reach in and give the needle a twist, after the glass bezel falls off.

Well, that night, mine did. It was a cool night and it was a flat freeway the whole way. Besides, it was tuned by that famous MGB tuner of the day - humfrz.

So there!

Well, for me, it wasn't as terrifying as having a pregnant, screaming wife, clawing at the headliner, when she was not capable of having a normal child birth. The idea of me attempting to do a Caesarean section, with a leatherman knife, along side of a freeway, at night - terrified me.

Damn, the toddler just announced that it's nap time - I'd best get in there before she changes her mind!

Later.

If you are hit with a laser, you're getting a ticket. Doesn't matter how good it detects laser. The only thing the Valentine has over R3 is rear facing detection which you really don't need. It just tells you where they are at.
The best thing to do is buy the best(longest reaching) radar detector which currently is the Uniden R3. And if you are really want to get no tickets, get a laser jammer/shifter in addition to a good radar detector. And even
then after all that, if they are running KA pop, they can get you but that isn't really used much. I ran a Escort Passport 8500 and now a Uniden R3 and I've never even come close to getting a speeding ticket running them.
Being aware of where and when they hide is huge. If you run a good detector and pay attention to what it says along with not driving too crazy, it's really hard to get a ticket. And I say that for the chicken shit 5mph
over ones like you just got. Real "speeding" like 20+mph over deserves a ticket all day. Usually a decent cop will allow 10mph over and anything under that is just them looking for a easy cash grab when somebody slips up.

There are days here you're going to slow if trying to merge onto the highway at only 20 over. Most of the time it's only 10-15 over in the slow lane.

Aside from far too many really bad drivers, I run dual dash cameras in part to be able to show I'm just going with the flow of traffic, staying out of the merge lane and staying out of the passing lane... No idea if that would help me - I try to avoid being pulled over in the first place.

5 over is... weird. Almost like a "oh shit, I thought I'd have them for something else, guess I have to give 'em a ticket". Which might mean they won't bother showing to a court date...
