Got A Speeding Ticket Need Advice...

cliffs:

i went 45 in a 40.

i cant take traffic school since i had another ticket from a few years ago (made an illegal turn).

in my city, i can only take traffic school once every 5 years, so therefore, this new ticket will increase my insurance

i contacted 3 top lawyers in my area, the 1st one hasnt repsonded (i email and left a message a week ago), the second one cant take my case since one of their lawyers is a part time judge at that court. the third one send me this email..

now, if you ask me, his price seems very very high for just a simple consultation... read the email.

Thank you for reaching out to me, my advice to anyone that gets a ticket in that court is not to hire an attorney but to defend yourself, and hire me as a consultant. My fee to do that is a flat $300, and if you’re interested, what I suggest you do is follow the instructions on the back of the citation to enter a plea of not guilty and request a trial.

When the court sends you a letter in the mail with the trial date, call me right away and we will set aside an hour or so to do the consultation by phone. I also email you some documents that you can use with you when you go to court, as well as a retainer agreement to read and sign and return to me.
I truly believe that this is the best way to approach your defense there, much better than hiring a lawyer in that particular court, because when you hire a lawyer the city has a lawyer there also, and that levels the playing field, making it nearly impossible to win cases there, that’s my experience and my recommendation, for what it’s worth.

Thanks again, let me know if you have any other questions, otherwise get in touch with me later if that’s what you choose to do.

that being said, WTF should i do????

First, Google " how to win a speeding ticket." 45 in a 40 isn't speeding and it's obvious they're just being jerks to collect extra "taxes."
Enter a plea of not guilty, go to court yourself and maybe officer friendly doesn't show and then you win.
If he shows, ask if you can see the all the certification for the radar that he may not provide, you win. Unless the judge is also
a jerk, a 45 in 40 should be easy to argue out of.

yep, ya played the game and got caught..just pay for it and decide if ya wanna take more chances in the future, all ya can do...would not go through the lawyer route, waste of time & money and it probably won't lead it anything worthwhile.

..just got my very first speeding ticket the other day, 55 in a 35 xD and I got singled out as I was following a couple other cars going roughly the same speed!

And? It's that or plead not guilty and go to court yourself.

Either that or spend money on an attorney, but 5 over is not worth it IMO.

I don't know what you mean by "top lawyers", but in most cities you should be able to find a lawyer that specializes in traffic violations and will go to court for you. It won't be cheap but will still be a lot cheaper than increased insurance over several years.

Or just go to court yourself and roll the dice.... but paying $300 for a "consultation" is bs

When life gives you speeding tickets, you get a radar detector. I recommend a Uniden R3.

Oh, Twin-Dragons, like others have said, I'd suggest you just pay the ticket and pay the increased insurance rate (45 in a 40 zone shouldn't raise your insurance that much).

You could always call your insurance carrier with a "what if" question about any insurance rate adjustment.

humfrz

PS - I agree that is a rather chicken-shit ticket -

What city city/state are you in? In Florida in my city there are law firms that specialize in speeding tickets and only charge $100 retainer fee and they handle all the paperwork and apperances for you. Their strategy is to delay the court date over and over again as much as they can in hopes that the cop that issued you the ticket doesn't show and when he doesn't show they ask for it to be dismissed. That's how they get you out of any fines/points/classes. Every city has law firms like this. You don't need a top law firm to do this for you.To be honest, I don't even think the lawyers go to the courtroom, I think they send their interns and their purpose in life is to stay there all day doing hundreds of these tickets.

My advice is to get a radar detector (Uniden R3) and download Waze on your phone to alert you to reported cops/hazards.

Good luck bro.
