The Golf GTi at one point about 8 years ago had a 2 year waiting list, then they bought out the Polo GTi to take off some of the strain, that ended up 18 months..

Other car makes have long waiting lists too some times.

still, its a PITA

It was 12 months for the Golf. The longest wait with Volkswagen was for the current Polo GTI at 15 months. Its now down to six while the Golf R is up to eight. Its hard to get right.

I ordered a Tornado Grey GTS 6MT on the 5/6/12 and was originally told september delivery. Today my dealer (Lander) called me to let me know it had been pushed back to October at the earliest, and that they'd have a definate date in 2 weeks time.
I also asked about a tracking number for the online tracking system, and they told me Toyota had frozen the online traking system for 86's in Australia.

I'm on the same boat, ordered mine on the 6/6/12. Our cars might literally end up on the same boat

I can also confirm the Toyota bulletin regarding the further delay in car production due to the huge demand.

However, the sales rep has not mentioned that my order will be affected so fingers crossed I will get my 86 in October at the latest (5 months from June).

After looking at the wording in the letter again, "to extend beyond 18 months" means that at some point in the future (based on current demand and supply), it may become 18 months.

At this point, if your dealer has given you a timeframe or specific date then it should be ok. I imagine 18 months being the waitlist in maybe March 2013?

No. If you order now you have to expect delays up to and beyond 18 months. Guys, please don't try to read anything into this. I have sat down with people from TMCA and they have been very implicit about this. If any dealer quotes you any less than 18 months for a GTS its buyer beware. The information has been put out there now. Don't ignore it.
