New here, hello.

With the advent of FI and MAF there is now much more to the engineering of air filters and CAI. Without going to great detail it is possible that a low restriction filter, or even the complete absence of one, may have a negative result and against expectations even lower the performance of the engine. The results vary between engines due to calibrations and so it is possible that filter brand X brings positive results on engine A while it yields negative or no results on engine B.

The one group of cars in constant search of power are without doubt the Spec Miatas that are strictly regulated and where even the most minute gains end up being a considerable advantage. The filter most commonly used here is the one made by Green Filter https://greenfilter.com
BTW one can not trust the filter brand decals on the cars as you will often see brand X advertised due to racing premiums paid while the filter driven is the Green Filter.

If you buy it make sure that it is the genuine article as there are many imitators which perform poorly.

My own BRZ tS is less than one week old and it will remain stock as it will run SCCA Solo in the Street Stock class.

Maybe it would take 200,000 kms to find out. It is just something else to consider.

Myself? I change my oem air filter about every 10,000 kms regardless. *shrug*
A third dimension is dirt capacity. As filters get dirty, they flow less air. A filter with a higher dirt capacity will flow more consistently over its maintenance interval. A lot of performance filters are like this: they flow very well flow very well when they're clean, but worse than OEM when they're dirty.

This link has some data and analysis from an ISO 5011 test comparing an OEM-style filter to various performance filters. http://nicoclub.com/archives/kn-vs-oem-filter.html

Is the HKS hybrid filter a one time use thing or can it be serviced ? What's the time/mile interval for service?

Anyone know where to find a 2.75" inlet diameter inverted conical filter between 10-14" long? I am thinking about replacing my perrin CAI oiled filter with a dry one, but cant find any inverted conical filters over 8" long though. I can find 12" dry conical filters which i've been debating getting, but id prefer something either larger or inverted for maximum air flow.
