Best aftermarket Air Filter?

I've been thinking about getting a new, aftermarket air filter to replace the stock one.

Wondered which brand is best and if it's worth it in terms of better breathing efficiency & some nominal horsepower increase.

Cosworth or K&N?

I used K&N when I was NA. There was absolutely no difference in power. Don't waste your money. I would keep using the OEM filter.

It's really the same product. Just depends on how much you want to pay or what ever is on sale.

There’s a thread on here that says it can lead to about a 5whp and 5wtq increase for NA cars.

HKS filter gains you 5 HP and 1 TQ base on their dyno numbers.

Although most filters will net you similar results so go with a brand you trust.

That is a very, very optimistic number.
You will get a cooler intake sound that will indeed make you feel like you have more HP but that is about it.

Yeah, I believed that and wasted my money. There is no difference, none that I can tell.

That dyno reference sounds good! But, other members are saying there's no appreciable difference.

I'm still confused though whether or not to upgrade the air filter over the OEM one.

I went with the TRD unit since it was the only one to get rid of the intake bend and direct air straight into the throttle body. Not that it makes a HUGE difference I'm sure, but at the time it made sense.

You wont feel any difference.

The induction sound may be more pronounced though, which would make the more expensive filter worth it

I went K&N, for cost savings more than anything else.
As long as you maintain it with a recharge kit, it will pretty much last forever.
I kept the new paper filter to swap in when I need to clean it.

I've been buying wix air filters because they have that platic rim that makes a more easy install. They also seem slightly higher quality than oem. These are not reusable, but just a better product than the oem filters. No hp gain just a slightly more expensive filter made to a slightly higher quality standard.
Main takeaway is the plastic lining for a more secure fit.

If you don't need a new air filter then I wouldn't bother.

But if you're coming up on a maintenance interval then an "upgraded" filter couldn't hurt.

Chances are you won't feel any performance gains though.

From personal experience I went with the K&N. Just because it was on sale from Walmart for $45.

I only used it for a year because my mpg dropped from 30 to 27. My butt dyno measured a 5 hp gain. Since I was just daily driving I switched back to oem filters and got back my 30 mpg back.
