I dunno, Leo. I've been keeping my mouth shut. Feel bad for the kid but that trunk lid is toast. Maybe longer bolts and spacers between the sheet and some creative bracing... Gets complicated quickly.

Yes, the trunk lid is FUBAR . Some creative efforts could save it though. Some welding, bodywork, and paint. Good as new... well not new. But it would be functional.

No, that stuff sucks for structural applications. Real structural foam is literally rockhard when cured. Like you can hit it with a hammer. I agree that the proper way to install he wing is to use longer bolts and backing plates through the bracing rather than cutting large holes in the bracing. The trunk lid is already structurally ruined in those spots, so why not give the foam a shot? I'm willing to bet it does the job, I use this on composite airplanes, and BMW used a similar foam to reinforce their subframe mounting areas after it turned out they went too thin on the metal. |

Cone bit from the top, but a Dremel on the underside. Disc broke and the guy at Home Depot sold me the wrong replacement ones. Gonna fix it later when I brace it

As others have said, beyond trying foam and hoping of the best, its FUBAR.
Get a new trunk and megarisers. That'd be about as functional as that wing and less ricey. |

Just read this thread. Doesn't look like anyone has made it clear to OP what he did wrong, and why it is toast. What a drag (no pun intended), a new trunk and paint is a pretty expensive lesson. |

By the way, this is why I would never buy a modded car.
Kid takes perfectly good trunk lid and ruins it. $500 for a new trunk $500 to get it painted. |

I'm 30, and I had just installed locking hood latches that took all my mental effort into making them flawless. I assumed this was just measure, drill, and tighten. I'm not really too worried about making a mistake on something I'd never done before. You live and learn. If the foam helps, it helps, if not, I'll buy another trunk. The one time you don't look up a DIY...

Still no explanation ultra. Op still doesn't get it. The structure was there, you cut it out.
Didn't it come with instructions? |
