A bit off topic but I used to feel a rather uneasy and rougher than usual idle on my old 2005 Camry. This was made better by changing oil, then again, it was more noticeable when oil was approaching the 5k oil change interval I used to go by with 10w30 Mobil 1 Synthetic.

Then again, I'm basically too "sensitive" sometimes. Probably not completely related to motor oil though (also, a much older, higher mileage engine).

Oil appearance does not tell you much, unless it’s ultra thin or thick when it’s not supposed to be. My wife has a Hyundai Genesis and the oil is black as death after 1 week. No issues at all, with synthetic oil and about 5k miles changes. I was worried because her previous Acura TL still had golden oil after 5k.

"gritty" oil! I'd trade that in pronto.
"so in tune with his car he can feel dirty oil from the seat" LOL! So what is the test for coolant?

the idea of preventative maintenance is to replace fluids while they are still fully capable of performing their task long before they become "gritty". I'm pretty sure Blackstone is not testing oil by rubbing it between his finger and thumb and there is no question on the fill out sheet about "does it rev the same"

If you track the car check the fluid before and change it afterwards (pay attention to how much drains out to determine if you are burning oil and may need a catch can and pcv change). whats an oil change, $40? you will never convince me that saving money on oil changes saves money.
