Engine failure and dealer did the right thing
A few weeks ago, my 2013 *AT* FRS with 57, 230 miles on it, started knocking loudly about 8 miles into the MA86 spring rally.
I had it towed to Miller Toyota in Manassas, and the diagnosed it with a spun rod bearing ![]() Toyota covered it without any hesitation and didn't even mention the grimmspeed intake or Tomei UEL headers. ![]() Miller did a great job going to bat for me, and had great customer service. From time of diagnosis until getting the car back was 15 days, and that was to replace the entire short block (ordered as one assembly straight from Toyota) The interesting thing, since it's an AT, it obviously never needed the TSB for the leaking cam plate since the AT has the pump in place of that plate.. so we know that isn't the cause.... Just wanted to relate a GOOD dealer story, since there are some good ones out there, and was completely impressed with how they handled this. Christine |

Glad it turned out well for you. Don't take this as sexist but being female probably helped your case as most girls don't rag out and tear up cars like guys do and if you are attractive that is the deal sealer there. Either way I hope you enjoy the new Mota.

That is impressive service right up to the very end of the powertrain warranty from Toyota. And capable service techs to perform the repairs. Congratulations and keep an eye on oil levels and hopefully no CEL related to oil pressure ever. Funny that spirited driving is looked at differently than "off road" use for the obvious reasons related to likelihood of component failure. Overall they are pretty reliable vehicles mechanically.

I think service people are far more likely to rip off women, who they often view as ignorant and manipulable.
I'm glad it worked out for you. I expect that most of the time, Toyota does cover repairs. We just hear about the edge cases.

I guess im not impressed? There was a case of someone blowing their supercharged engine and the dealer covered it. Now THAT is impressive.

As a followup, about 1200 miles on the new motor, changed oil @ 300 or so after a spirited break-in.
Definitely happy with their work. No leaks, motor is stronger than the factory one as expected just from the newness if nothing else, and I know the oil change history now, where before it was a variable, since WTF knows what the previous owner did. The car was a repossessed car that the dealer bought at auction and freshened for resale (new tires/brakes/belts/fluids/etc) Very pleased with Miller Toyota of Manassas customer service and workmanship. |

I have to tell you, if they warrantied an engine on a repo'd car they MUST be customer friendly. I'm not confident Charlize Theron could talk a dealer into that. Good for you. One question, though, when you bought the car what did they represent about the warranty?

I never understood why dealers don't fix engine/transmission problems (that's not obviously caused by customer abuse/neglect). Don't they make money off of all "warrantied" repairs?
Glad it worked out for you regardless. |

Hey I think you should buy some good extended warranty from that dealer. Do it while they still remember you.
