I think his issue was more with his desire to downshift putting it right at red line. Downshifting aids in deceleration but also puts you in the right gear in prep for accelerating again. But if you downshift putting it right at redline and then need to accelerate you are going to have to put it right back where it came from before you can pull again. But I really don’t think the OP is saying this is his normal driving practice. I think he is simply curious why his car isn’t engine braking at high RPMs. Typically you would get more engine braking at higher RPMs so I agree with him that it’s odd. |
