Agreed, in hindsight I would have done that...At the time I thought I might as well make use of the warranty left on the car to get as many niggles sorted as possible.

Oh wow.. Now I'm nervous to go to my 2nd timing chain cover leak repair. the initial leak was worse and currently oil is just sipping from the dipstick area I think as far as my check but reading this now is making me have 2nd thoughts. 2014 brz here w/ 38k miles in the odo. So I have an appt to bring the car in on th 8th? just keep the appt and have them fix it?

I have found over the years, even before I got old and lazy, that sometimes it's best to let certain niggles go unsorted ......

Like the plumbing in an old cabin in CT.......

And a leak in the shower stall of my daughters bathroom ......

Hopefully a new "O" ring on the dipstick tube will fix it.

I hope so too. The tech that did the inspection said and they will remove the whole timing cover and reseal and change all the O ring that's in there. The tech was kind enough to come out and talk to me to explain the whole procedure per my request.

If I were you, I would drop them an email warning them about potential oil starvation after changing the timing chain cover - just so that you have it on "paper" that you warned them, since we all know how dealers like to point fingers and pin the blame on other things.

3K miles later leading up to today after my 2nd leak warranty job. My car just spun a bearing too and I just got back home from sropping it off at the dealer. Waiting to see what they say. I say go ahead and get it all “fixed” under warranty while you still can before you have to pay out of pocket. My friend had the similar issue and he was out of warranty and the dealer only wanted to cover 50% of the cost it was to put in a new block.

wow. this is just wow. A fix that leads to another problem eh? aint that a good news.. smh. well, yeah just bring them the car to for the fix and let them handle it. I'll be writing an email for the advisor regarding the potential problem it will have few miles later after the fix just to put it on documentation. Thanks for the heads up!

Update: They did not need to reseal my timing chain cover. They changed dipstick o-ring and they applied some leak check spray per receipt. No sign of any leak so far. Knock on wood it stays like that.
