Good summer tire setup?

Hey guys, I just purchased some wheels that are 17x8 +35. I'm also considering the Federal 595 RS-RR tires in a 235/45/17. Would this be a good tire size to go with? As well as a good tire to ride on? I am at stock height right now but am soon purchasing lowering springs. Thanks

Great specs on your wheels; they will fit stock height and lowered.

I have no experience with Federal tires. Though a google search says that the 235/45/17 weighs 28lbs! Plus, unless you need a tire that is super soft, a 140 UTQG will wear fast! (the tread design is cool, though not a solid reason to buy)

I'd suggest a 225/45. I like Michelin tires, but have had good experiences with the BFG Comp 2 and Sumitomo HTRZ III. (IF you still have your stock tires, they will work just fine till you burn em up!)

I suggest any springs with an approx 1" drop, as they have been proven to work well with the stock shocks. I have Eibach prokit springs and stock shocks for 65,000 miles.

Try doing a little search even on this very site. There are dozens of these what are the best summer tire threads out there. There are no new tires to come out since alot of these threads were made so your answers will be the same.

I'm in the same boat.. Considering Nankang NS-20 or Ventus V12 Evo's.
There are not too many reviews on NS20s, but I do have a friend who was very satisfied with them. Ventus V12 is a good choice, as discussed on this forum many times.

225/45 or 235/40 for an 8" wide wheel. I would avoid the 235/45 due to gearing. What are you going to be using the tires for? The RS-RRs are a good tire for performance driving but may not be the ideal choice for commuting.

I agree 100%. And, the only reason I didn't suggest the 235/40 is because it is rare.

Tirerack has 169 choices for 225/45
Tirerack has 9 choices for 235/40

Surprisingly (maybe only to me, LOL) the Federal RS-RR comes in 235/40/17

imo your sidewalls will be a bit squishy on a 8" tire.

squishy depends on tire construction...I remember my evo's R050 tires felt like solid metal with instant response and crazy grip compared to the Bfgood Comp tires I bought afterwards...but I'm sure those would be way better than the stock primacy things we have on our cars now...

I recently got tires and the best tires out there are Michelin Pilot Pro Sports. Thee are plenty of other great tires and certainly tires that are better bang for the buck BUT the best are PSS.

If you are NA, stay with 225's. Too much tire will make your car pretty boring to drive. If you want to drift some and like a livelier ride- get 215's.

I’ve been loving the Dunlop Star Specs. Between the ZI Star Spec and the ZII Star Spec I’ve had about 4 pairs. I’ve done a lot of tires over the years, mostly Bridgestones. All Extreme Perf category. Seems most of the autox world goes with the RE-71R but those things eat up fast. If you have a dedicated set of rims for racing I would go with the RE71R. But what I like about the ZII SS is they have massive grip but also really good tread life (for an extreme perf tire of course).

Would 215 tires even fit an 8 inch wheel?
