On my past cars drop-in filters always improved my throttle response and mileage. Hp gains are minimal, but throttle response (which gives the illusion of more power) changes.

But obviously, let's keep in perspective it is just a drop in filter, nothing crazy here, just noticeable.

Intake systems in cars below 350 whp are useless. A lot of WRX/STI guys drop in a K&N and call it a day.

Drop in filters do not generally gain anything with regards to HP but they dont lose any either and do not have to be replaced. I am planning on doing a dyno comparison between the aFE panel filter and the stock one.

It depends of the design. My 2.5 rabbit gained 16whp with a cai since the stock filter sits atop the exhaust manifold. A sri would most likely make you loose power because it would be sucking in hot air. It would probably improve sound.

TRD now lists PTR43-00085 (number provided by OP) as the drop in air filter for the FR-S...

It's different from the TRD Japan one though
![]() Taking racing engine technology developed under the harshest standards and modifying it for commercial use has enabled us to achieve the smooth, clean air flow an engine needs. For installation, simply remove the standard air filter. Install as a set with the High Response Muffler Ver.R to create an optimal pairing of intake & exhaust – the difference in smooth engine response will be noticeable immediately.
