TRD air filter inside!

Since TRD doesnt have an airfilter listed yet in canada for the FR-S i decided to take my stock unit out and open up so boxes at work. Turns out its the exact same thing as a matrix 05. So below is 3 pictures with the part number!

Cost?

I presume that a filter alone doesn't do all that much, am i right? I would think for a noticeable change you'd need a SRI or CAI. Personally i'd also heat-wrap it. But anyways, are there any dyno comparisons of stock filter versus the TRD?

Actually you are more likely to see good gains in a modified stock air box with a better filter then you are with a SRI in most cases

Is that because the box has an inherent resistance to radiant heat?

in most cases

Then i wonder if just a good heat-wrapping (Which is kind of fun do to) would do the same for the SRI(?) I've heat wrapped my SRIs and on the Celica i actually put in a duct system which runs from the fog light port in the bumper right to the filter. I wonder if that would be as good as the air box-- albeit with much more work/effort.

Rallysport did a Dyno of an APEXi high flow drop in filter, gains where about 3 HP and 2 TQ.

That's not bad for just a drop in. I've heard of K&N being 10-12hp(not whp).

It depends on the engine. From a V8, probably. On this car, I would not bet anything over 5 HP and that's a big stretch.

I have the KN for our car. there definitely is some gain but I'm sure its 3HP tops.

Do you think there is more to gain in responsiveness from the filter than real hp?
