Auto Tranny/Diff Fluid Change

Hello I have a 2015 auto frs
I understand the auto tranny is a B to change the fluid out. I'm wondering if I can trust my dealer to do that or is it best to go to some independant mechanic shop, what are your thoughts on that?

Also is it OK to just change the diff fluid only and leave the tranny out of it for now or should I change them both at the same time? Thank you

Hey I don't know about the about the auto tranny but you should definitely change out the diff. You'll have a good amount of metals shavings on the drain plug. I just posted pictures of my drain plug when I changed at 10k and 40k. How many miles do you have?

Hello I only have 18k on so far.

Would it be okay if i just changed out the diff?

What would be the best diff oil for an auto frs?

I know Motul is good, 75/90 is the ratings correct? or is it different for auto to manual

I'm about to change out my diff fluid for the second time. With primarily short trip city driving, I find I'm getting 2 years/25000km out of the fluid before the LSD starts to become less smooth in locking up.

Yeah you'd definitely be fine changing out the diff and can always change the auto fluid after. I'm sure it's the same on the auto and manual. Everyone says Motul 300 is the best fluid to go with. I used it for my first diff fluid change at 10k but for the 40k change I just did a few days ago I used Mobil 1 75w-90 Synthetic Gear Lube LS. I just daily my car so spirited driving occasionally. I'm sure it will work for me. It's half the price of Motul as well.

For the frequency of changing the AT fluid and the differential oil, I suggest you refer to your car's maintenance manual ......

Either an experienced auto shop or the dealership should be qualified to change the AT fluid.

As far as changing the differential oil ....... I feel that several folks are overreacting to seeing some metal shavings on the magnetic drain plug and get carried away with changing the oil.

Yes, when gears mesh together, sometimes metal shavings are produced ...... so what? The magnetic drain plug's job is to attract and hold them ....... so they stay out of the gears.

Just because one sees some metal shavings on the magnetic drain plug ...... doesn't mean that the oil in the differential is FULL of metal shavings.

However, if YOU feel better about changing the differential oil frequently, go right ahead ........ I doubt YOUR CAR will give a rip.......

totally agree. just did my rear diff at 22k - plenty of shavings on the magnet but the fluid looked great. used motul, but I have used m1 before on my wrx and its good stuff.
