This is my first manual car, but I think I'll be able to make 120k miles.

This seems to be about the right time, but just wondering what other people thought.
If you're having a hard time getting into gear that could be the clutch not disengaging properly, which would be either low fluid, bad clutch master, bad clutch slave or air in the clutch line.

If the clutch is worn out you'll have it slip under acceleration. If it's not slipping, you're 100% fine on the clutch end.

If he wants to replace the clutch, and wants more clamping force (with all that entails), then yes he should get a clutch rated for more. Keep in mind though that there's really no guarantee that any aftermarket clutch is going to last as long as a stock one if the driving style and type of use is similar.

Keep in mind you should be looking into an aftermarket clutch fork if you upgrade to a heavier clutch than stock.

TOB will go first, when you replace it make sense to swap clutch while you are at it

How long do you expect brake pads to last ?

This is a rhetorical question. Clutch is a wear item just as brakes. Life is dictated by usage, driving style and the actuation system controlling it.

everyone should upgrade the clutch fork, throwout bearing, and some of the other transmission stuff no matter what clutch they choose to use. But there are tons of stock clutches out there since so many upgrade those too.

My stock clutch will last forever since it is sitting in a box in my bedroom.

Id imagine the disc material would outlast the TOB, except if standing burnouts and the like were regularly preformed.

My clutch went at 68,270 miles. The car has been tracked a few time. I heel/toe daily. I thought it might last longer, but I do drive a little hard on the daily.

My clutch went at about 70K.

TOB went out due to cracks, clutch not releasing when press. Upon disassembly, the undamage portion of the clutch friction surface still have plenty of life left.
