Nice find. It isn't real clear if this keeps the HU functions though. I'm guessing it does. I like how it gives you two ports too. I don't like the white outline and lettering and I don't like the price. Hahaha. If my concept for upgrading the existing port works it will be free (because I already have a cig adapter on hand).

What that is doing is getting rid of your aux input so you can have a dedicated USB power connection in it's place. The top one connects to the HU, the bottom is connected to a power source only.
So, keep USB conectivity (top port) Lose AUX input (bottom port) Charge phone only, no connectivity (bottom port) EDIT: based on the below photo of the wiring, it looks like it only will charge on both ports, as the connector going to the stock harness only has 2 of the 4 wires needed for connectivity. That could be easily modified to do what I originally stated though. At $90 that's a steep price to do that when there's a 12v in the glove box, and a 12v in the center console. ![]() As a side note, if you're "concept" is to simply tap into the stock USB power wires with additional amperage, be very very careful you don't burn out the connection on/in the headunit. Use diodes in the right spots to prevent the additional amperage from backfeeding into the headunit. |

I wasn’t going to “tap” into the power lines. I was going to totally cut the power lines from the HU and supply my own 5v/2a lines. The only thing left running to the HU would be D+ and D-.

You'll probably need to tie the ground of the headunit usb cable to the ground of the power supply too.
Thinking of doing something similar.. I just wish headunits would come with fast charge usb c ports already |
