BRZ & USB Port
So not sure if anyone has ran into this.
I have a 16gb usb still that I use for music. I'm only using about 1/2 or less of it. 7.28 GB free. 74 Items/Folders. 1) It seems the unit only picks up some of my folders? All music was copied from iTunes. 2) I added some new songs this afternoon and the radio would not even read the usb, the button was gray. I deleted some songs and it would pick up the usb stick again however maybe still only 40% of all the folders. So does anyone know if its a format issue? Max number of folders?

Are they all MP3? If you bought some of the songs through iTunes your going to need to remove the drm first.

Is formatted in FAT32? Maybe the problem is related to the 4GB file transfer cap? Although that's shouldn't technically affect it... Have you tried formatting in exFAT? If it reads then perhaps that will solve it because exFAT doesn't have the 4GB cap...

Go to Disc Utility on your Mac. On the left pane, click on your USB drive. Go to the Erase tab. Click the drop down box and select exFAT Name your Drive Hit erase. Load up iTunes and resync all your music. See if it works better! If it doesn't then, I have no idea what the problem is..

I would check the encode settings, I'm pretty sure by default iTunes encodes as AAC not mp3. If that doesn't work I would wipe the drive and start over like Guff said. |

Sounds like you're doing everything correctly. It's possible that your USB stick is just old and the head unit has issues reading it... Maybe pick up a newer USB stick and give it a shot.
"DRM" means Digital Rights Management" and it means the mp3 files are encoded with special data that restricts what type of devices can read the files and how they can be used, (i.e. they are "protected"). If you've done the encoding from CD, you should have control over this feature. If you're seeing discrepancies with which files are being displayed, sometimes XYZ files are visible, other times ABC files, it sounds like a software or hardware incompatibility. |

Its a new stick, like 1 month old
I'll try reformatting it. For some reason I remember seeing somewhere that the head unit would only read up to a 16gb stick not anything larger. So my only thought is maybe that size limit is smaller? Strange thought b/c when you connect an ipod that size limit doesn't seem to apply but maybe its the way its managed. As far as the itunes sync. Its not sync'd. B/C its a usb stick you manually create folders and drag and drop. Is there a way to sync external drives? I though you could only sync apple devices? |

Your USB stick size is too large. 8 GB max.
You can also hit a 'number of files/folders' limitation. Many HUs have that issue. According to an internal Subaru Tech Support Guide for the FT nav: Quote:
subaru.com/owners/resource-center/owners-manuals/index.htmlTip: Having the PDF version is handy for searching for a keyword (such as "USB" or "folders"). ![]() OP- Is 74 the total number of folders+files on your USB stick?

I knew I saw that somewhere ![]() So got a new 8gb stick loaded up my folders and still nothing. So I started trying one folder at a time. Turns out most of my old skool music is mpeg-4....which the unit does not see. So I'm searching for an easy way to convert them right now. |
