Thanks for the input.

In your guys' minds, how "necessary" are these bushings for any twin that is going to mod their car to improve its handling and overall performance?

I had the steering rack bushings, trans mount insert, diff bushing inserts, and the subframe inserts on my FR-S. I traded the car in for a bone stock BRZ. I took off the trans mount inserts, and diff bushing inserts before trading the FR-S in.

Honestly, with my sotck BRZ, I can't tell much of a difference in overall performance. But I can tell the diff moves around a lot more. The subframe does shift a bit in aggressive corners with elevation changes and bumps and stuff, but nothing terrible in my opinion. Transmission still feels pretty tight. Steering seems a little loose, but I think I need an alignment.

Without the inserts, I'm afraid the stock diff and subframe bushings will wear out faster and I'll have to end up replacing them down the road.

The most accessible autocross classes I could compete in are DS and the new SSC class, but they don't allow any bushing changes. STX is a big jump in terms of accessibility for me, but it allows all the mods I would want.

I'm in a dilemma. Do I think these are necessary for a performance modded twin? Will the stock bushings tear without them? How much performance do they really add? Is their value too good to pass up? Other cars would be lucky to have such a cheap intermediate solution before going for full poly bushings, and a lot of those cars have issues with stock bushings tearing...

If you have a brand new car, or a like-new car, you won't get much out of the inserts from a performance perspective.

We are not yet at the level where cars are a dime a dozen and/or in need of overhaul like cars 10-20 years old, so whether you want to get these mods added is entirely up to you. At some point this will make sense, but given how new the car is I would say "don't mod for the sake of modding" if you have any doubt about perceived performance gains.

Good points.

Are there any documented cases of the stock diff and aubframe bushings tearing on these cars or anything like that?

After nearly 2 years of running solid diff/subframe mounts, i haven't had any issues from it.
I would say the whiteline ones offer some sort of vibration absorption compared to solid steel/aluminum.. so you will be fine!

Good to hear! Now my concern is whether stock bushings will tear without the inserts lol
