Finished pulling the motor. Oil pan fits over the cross member, rack and sway bar but with the HP and water pumps hanging off the back of the motor it's too far back. I pulled the sway bar and things look better. It'll still be snug by the firewall. I may still trim the pan to move it forward another inch or so.

The cross member holes for the motor mounts as compared to where my mock up motor mount plates fall look good. Need to get polly isolaters and a digital level (mine crapped out!) this week.

As a sidebar, what is everyone setting the angle of the trans at??

The angle of the trans is relative to the angle of your differential. pull the driveshaft and put an angle finder on the face of the input pinion flange ( or whatever passes for a flange). The corresponding flange on the back of the gearbox needs to be the same but opposite.

The goal is to have the center line of the gearbox output shaft and the center line of the pinion parallel but not in line ( concentric). In line will eat u-joints and non-parallel will cause vibration.

That's some good info. I need to make sure I set the transmission at the correct angle when I do my LS swap.

Whoah...good info, makes sense.

It's easy enough to measure the angle on a flat flange like the one of the diff...but how do you measure the angle on the back of the trans/yoke?

does suspension travel play a difference? Like compressed, full droop, or cruise height

This trans has a fixed yoke. I'll need to take off the rubber isolator then I can measure

I see that. T56 and others have a slip yoke. Any idea on how to get a good measurement?

Unless you're running solid differential bushings, you'll still need a tiny amount of angle offset so the joints are in phase when the diff rotates a bit under load. You always dial in a bit less angle on solid axle cars, especially with leaf springs. I imagine an IRS setup would require less, but there's still going to be some movement..
