ive come to accept that scion getting this car is a good possibility, but hearing that they would bring 'their own' concept of the FT worries me that we may get a watered down poser cruiser with heated cup holders.

if it MUST be a scion fine make it an FT-86 with scion badging, but dont betray the original concept for revenue.

the only solace i have is that there is no solid confirmation, but when you hear the same rumors again and again you start to believe there may be a sliver of truth in them.

...Just an idea...while I want it to be toyota....

if they release this as a scion... the average buyer will look at it with its higher price tag as the upgrade to the tc. The current tc makes 180hp,173tq, is 3k lbs, and does 0-60 in 7.3(taken from wiki)

considering most people pretty much consider hp figures when looking for a car that should mean from a marketing perspective there should be a solid bump in power from the tc.

I guess I'm just trying look at the upside to things but it could mean for a quicker car compared to what they would have released as a toyota.

The same "very reliable source" said that there was gonna be a 4wd subaru version debuting at geneva.

They're rumors, nothing more.

The scion thing is probably BS, but I've been saying for a long time that if the car is going to be released in the U.S. then the NYIAS is the only relevent show left to debut a concept. LA is too close to the production release at Tokyo.

I'm pretty sure we will see something FT-86 related at NYIAS.

At this point I DGAF about the badge I just want to test drive the car.

you people crack me up but i do quote some of the stuff i read in meetings with tmm and tms and they get a laugh at it as well.

before it was decided which brand the FT-86 would be sold under in the states we outweighed all positives and negatives and we hired 3rd party marketing companies and it took awhile. the outcome back in early 2009 is that such a car is better suited in u.s. market as a scion. trust us you will appreciate it. with the scion buying process dealers can't price gouge you with huge mark-ups because it will be a low volume car. dealers will only get one or two a month, first full year "build status" for the u.s. because it will be shared in other markets is in the very low 20k. do the math, there's just under 1000 scion dealers and 1200 toyota dealers. this could change but we highly doubt it. so to the talks about the car being "overpriced", "it should be a toyota", "it will look boxy". all i can say is, wait, because it really is just around the corner. you will see pricing and specs very soon and no it won't be squared off for scion.

also, all i can say is that potential owners and especially ethusiast will be extremely happy with the final product.

you are trdliquidsilver from the s2ki forums? thank you for joining! i and others are concerned that the quality and fit and finish of the interior of newer toyotas and especially scion is very poor! can you give us some assurance concerning the interior of the car?

can't with embargo. all i can say is that the interior will befit a car of its price range. we have seen production interior design for the FT and again you will be very happy.

i don't know why you guys knock toyota/scion interiors. we just bought a 2011 gti for testing and while it looks great we could see where they cut costs. our favorite was the glove box that wouldn't close after a number of tries, it finally did after we slammed it shut three times.

i must admit this attitude of laughing off and dismissing the target market's wishes for this car from toyota is kind of disappointing. isn't customer satisfaction important to toyota? i do appreciate you joining and sharing with us what you can though.

My problem with Scion is their marketing.

The tC comercials are jokes and would make me embarrassed to own one. Why? It's the fact they use computer animation to advertise the car.

This is acceptable with the FT-86 while it's a concept, because it portrays the concepts goal and idea.

But when you are trying to market an actual vehicle you should be portraying its actual performance in real time.

Animation aside, read the captions they advertise on the car. The wheels. Seriously you are going to market a car based on it's wheels? Aren't they the first thing most people replace anyway?

They also advertise USB and iPod jack, and 180 HP. This part I may be bitter on because the Scion tC was considered a replacement for the Celica GT-S, which got 180 HP and was much lighter back in 1999. It's just the whole marketing of the tC seems like they can't decide who their audience is, or maybe it's the fact that I despise the audience it is targeting.

Finally, no offense, but your marketing analysis just ripped you off. I'd like to see their basis for determine the Scion brand.

If anything, let's be honest. The Scion brand is failing and needs something to pick it back up.

in all honestly, if the car lives up to its expectation and handles as well as a RX8, then i dont care if its scion or toyota...although I would prefer it being a Toyota.

regarding the comment from TRDLiquidSilver...i am going to be the black sheep here and comment on your comments. you keep reiterating that we will be very happy with the final product and we won't be disappointed. But since i assume you work for Toyota, you wouldn't want to bash the car even if you didn't like it. It's common sense to keep pushing the car on a positive note and not talk negative about it...no one in their right minds would talk bad about a product he/she works for, and especially not when the product isn't even out...especially if this is a low volume car and this forum is very popular for potential FT86 buyers.

in regards to the interior, you mention it will befit the price range of the car...but I believe in order to be successful, the interior can't just be on par within the price range but exceed the expectation. I also believe most of the members on here are curious on how the interior looks like...so even if the quality of the interior is top notch..if the design of it is ugly or not user friendly, it will fail as well..so maybe you can hint at some interior design cues from the concept that will be present in the final model.

but i do appreciate you giving some insights and offering your comments, thanks TRDLiquidSilver
