Agree with all the points that the noise is quite normal. This engine makes the noises it does for three reasons:

- This is not your grandad’s cast iron V8. Cast iron has a very good sound absorbing property that modern light alloys do not have at all. The block is thin, light and transmits every sound that’s happening inside

- The valve train is extremely noisy. The cams are driven by chains that are much noisier than belts by comparison. Give me chains any day!

- All the valve train gear is duplicated in this engine compared to an inline 4. You get valve train nose in stereo when you open the hood!

The sounds you hear when you open the hood should really be the least interesting thing about this car. When the throttle is opened, induction and exhaust noise starts to dominate. Get in and give it a thrash and tell us then what you don’t like about it. Listening to it idle and revving it with low throttle openings doesn’t really give you the full picture.
