Throwing this guy out there. The offset is different, but width etc etc seems to be what you're looking for. |

Good to know that the 245/40 Indy 500 fits on a 17x8 well, I may try it out next.

I am using 225/45-17 Yokohama tires on stock 17x7 rims which is within specs of this tire size. There is absolutely no disadvantage, pinching whatsoever. I only see the benefit of better traction which is especially needed with a supercharger and a slightly better shock absorption. Grain of salt: the advantages I see are relative to the stock 215/45-17 Bridgestone Turanza tires. I am planning to go with 245/40-17 on 17x8 +45 rims next, again within recommended specs of the tire and car.
Unless there is a significant increase in power, I think 225/45-17 is ideal for our cars; 245 width will make the car look faster but go slower. |

I just want to lighten the car but maintain my odometer/speedometer measurements. Shouldnt I basically stick to a 17x7/7.5 rim amd 215/45 tire?

The effective diameter of a tire decreases in time as they wear out. 225/45 has ~2% larger diameter than 215/45. So speedometer reading will be that much lower and become closer to true value in time. 215/45 starts closer to true value and become higher in time. It doesn't look like a difference that matters to me. I preferred the ride quality and grip of 225, actually 225 was cheaper and had a wider selection. The weight difference is negligible but some tires are lighter than others. I think Yokohama was lighter than Michelin. As you see, it comes down to personal decision but it won't make much difference. Good luck.
