If there is a MK2 coming why would Toyota/Subaru admit to anything when the refresh just came out? No one would want to buy it with a new model around the corner. |

I just can't see it, by 2020 we'll be looking at hybrid or an alternate power source and the way cars are going it'll be FWD for anything below 250bhp, RWD and/or 4WD for things over 250bhp. As soon as we go over the 250bhp Supra replacement comes to mind not a Twin. |

We are years away from hearing any real news on the next facelift/new gen/dropping the line. They will run with the 2017 face lift for at least 2 or 3 years in order to recover the costs.

They will not be ready for alternate power by 2020 although there could certainly be a hybrid version by then. The Supra is a whole different class of car and would never be a Twin replacement.

Sadly majority of the driving public don't give a flying fuck as to which wheels are driven. A lot of BMW series 1 drivers don't even know that their car is RWD hence BMW looking to switch to FWD. I don't know how the Twin came about but it sure was a breath of fresh air for the car fanatic but for the rest of the buying public they don't care. I did read somewhere the new Supra will share its underpinning with a smaller sports car but I don't think it'll be a Twin as we know and love. |

Don't know where you read about the smaller car but it doesn't seem realistic for them to do. Besides Toyota already has a smaller concept out there that has no connection to BMW. How the Twins came about is well documented by Toyota. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5274

HP theory is all mine based on power corrupts.. FWD with over 250bhp, torque steer requiring special solutions/tyres and electronic aids to manage drive in the lower gears. |

Nah. Too simple. Cars went to FWD because they are cheaper to make, easier to drive and as you said before most people just don't care not because of HP levels. torque steer can be overcome pretty easy when they really want to. There are piles of FWD cars out there with well over 250.

I'll give you that the general public has no idea of FWD, RWD or AWD. As for horsepower related to how many wheels are driven .... your statement is dumb. BMW may use FWD on it's lesser cars in the future, but not the majority of their cars. A fact of life is that most people that know anything about cars want RWD or AWD for their large sedans or sports cars. As for the Supra. It will have nothing in common with the 86 chassis. Read up on the Toyota/BMW joint collaboration on chassis and most likely the power plant.

Supra is a new chassis that Toyota will use for another but smaller sports car. As for horsepower split, asking one set of wheels to drive and turn with 250+bhp I think is too much without messing with the suspension and introduction of electronic aids. I rather run it to the back and leave the front wheels to steer. |

Doesn't matter if you would rather run it in back there are loads that do not. FWD can handle every bit of HP that RWD can if they engineer things right. Yes they have to deal with torque steer but that is no different than RWD having to deal with the rear end kicking out at high HP launch. Will they stop making high level Mustangs and turn them all into AWD just because people keep losing them on launch and bouncing off curbs (and crowds)? 2015 Ford Edge: 315 hp, 350 lb-ft 2016 Acura RLX: 310 hp, 272 lb-ft 2015 Cadillac SRX: 308 hp, 265 lb-ft 2015 Chevrolet Impala: 305 hp, 264 lb-ft; 2015 Cadillac XTS: 305 hp, 264 lb-ft; 2015 Buick LaCrosse: 304 hp, 2015 Volvo S60 T6 Drive-E; 2015 Volvo XC60 T6 Drive-E: 302 hp, 295 2015 Lincoln MKS: 304 hp, 279 lb-ft; 2015 Lincoln MKT: 303 hp, 278 lb- 2016 Chevrolet Equinox; 2016 GMC Terrain: 301 hp, 272 lb-ft 2015 Lincoln MKZ: 300 hp, 277 lb-ft 2016 Nissan Maxima: 300 hp, 261 lb-ft
