Yeah, but they set it up backwards First, and last time I used it, my upshift was a downshift.

I thought that as well! downshifts should have been a forward push and upshifts a rearward push. I never use the shifter either.

You can swap that around, it's just changing 2 cables. Plus becomes minus and vice versa.

Yep, any race car with a sequential shift, is going to use inertia to aid in the shifting. Granted teh inertia is going to be minimized with light weight shift knob and linkage, but still, when you brake objects in motion tend to stay in motion, ie moving forward, so down shift is forward. Under acceleration, things want to stay 'still', so the upshift is pulled back.

Use physics to your advantage!!
