I think their point is that it would have become more mainstream regardless. It was a Toyota in the majority of the world. I doubt that Americans having a "T" badge is what's going to turn this car into a FWD hatchback.

Enthusiasts are also customers. So, manufacturers somehow take their preferences into account based on their ratio in overall customer crowd. Plus, there are media driven by enthusiastic journalists that publish car reviews.

That is what I meant.

No still wrong. Many here place much more importance on a badge than the average person. The Toyota badge did not and will not change the car from what it would have been. The only reason that Scions were stripped down was that was part of the their whole philosophy on cars not to give a more raw feel but to make them cheaper. When it gets bigger and heavier it would have done exactly the same thing if the Scion badge had persisted. I repeat. It WAS mainstream everywhere but North America all along and they are not going to change or not change it because the Scion badge is gone.
Not real sure who is being "dense" here.

Define "enthusiast" for me please. This word gets thrown around a lot and I am not sure that everybody really knows what it means.

en·thu·si·ast
inˈTH(y)o͞ozēˌast,enˈTH(y)o͞ozēˌast/
noun
noun: enthusiast; plural noun: enthusiasts
a person who is highly interested in a particular activity or subject.
"a sports car enthusiast"

Had to google that one Tcoat. "Sports car enthusiast" was the first example, ironically.

So, it's something someone is interested in. Apparently, I'm an "enthusiast" of many things lol

I thing when talking how businesses run and make their choices we tend to forget one major component... Enthusiasts ≠Consumers... I have been a sports car enthusiast since I was a kid playing with my hot wheels but I didn't become a sports car consumer until this year and consumers are what drive decision making.

Was sort of hoping for Accel's (probably bizarre) response but I can run with this.

So an auto enthusiast can be anybody that loves their car or cars in general. The dude that buys the 'Vette and drives it 3 days a year and the old woman (i.e. my wife) that buys a certain colour of car and then spends every driving minute looking for another one the same can be just as much "enthusiasts" as the guy tracking every weekend or the hellaflushed show crowd.

So when comments are made that the "enthusiasts" have input just what do they mean? The over the top "I want it all" crowd? The little old lady that likes blue demographic? The word gets thrown around here as if "enthusiast" is synonymous with expert or knowledgeable when it is in fact not even close. There are some dumbass "enthusiasts" here and god help us if they are ever in a concept focus group all at once!

This car was designed from extensive input of "enthusiasts" right from the word go but look at how many others bitch and moan that it should be something different.

Most complain about the lack of power. But, that's extremely easy to fix if you so desire.

I really don't get it TBH. I love this car! IMO they delivered exactly what they said they wanted to build.

And now the power "enthusiast" want more power. The handling "enthusiasts" want more handling. The hellflush "enthusiasts" want more camber. The family "enthusiasts" want more space. The Instagram "enthusiasts" want more likes. And so on and so on.

On a side note I didn't spell "enthusiasts" properly once there and never repeated the same error twice. Needless to say I am a spell check enthusiast.

And, they can do it all if they want! Isn't that why this is called a "Tuners car"?

I'm going to do some mods just for shits and giggles and only because I feel like it and because I can. I would like a project and would like to learn to track it.
