Oh .......OK......

With my white FR-S, it's difficult for me to see any bumper scrapes or chips ...... why? Because I can't get down that low (and get up again) to see them ......

Pics of the rock chips? That was one of my biggest fears, especially since they don't salt roads up here they gravel them.

you can't clear bra over ceramic coats, you have to coat over the bra...

Instead of rock chips they just rubbed the paint right off at all the contact points!

Purchased a new 2017 BRZ in crystal white pearl about a month ago. Within a couple weeks it got some rock/paint chips on the front bumper. Looking back on it all, I should've gotten a clearbra or PPF done immediately... hindsight is 20/20.

Anyway, I'm considering getting the front bumper repainted and then the clearbra installed. There are about 4 small chips in the paint (about 2mm each...pretty small. I used the suby touch up paint pen but the results were poor)... and i'm pretty anal and if I were to do the clearbra, id rather the bumper be 100% perfect... however I also know the difficulties in getting a pearl white paintjob done correctly.

What would you guys do in this situation? Repaint + clearbra? or just clearbra and forget about the small chips.

As painful as those first few chips are you will get over it. Just leave it a while and they become invisible. If you really want to just touch up the chips and throw the bra on. Keep in mind that the clear bra is not indestructible either though. Any rock that hit hard enough will tear it and then you have little clear banners flapping in the wind. I am pulling mine off my hood this summer because the tears in the plastic look worse than the chips in the paint.

I never specified to do ceramic coating then clear bra.
But for Opticoat Pro you can put under or over PPF.
Dunno about other ceramic coatings.

Why not just wrap the car? Or just the bumper?

That's almost the idea of a clearbra. I think OP wants the OEM color and not to pay a stack for a wrap. If he touches up the paint, the clearbra will wrap over it and protect it while remaining clear to show the paint/color.

Hey all, thanks a lot for all the input. I think I will just touch up current chips and just clear bra over it. Seems like too much of a hassle to repaint.

My respray.

My respray results!

Pretty happy with how it turned out given how it was before -- 70k worth of rock chips, scrapes, bruises, sloppy touch up, spider cracks, etc.

Now scheduling a time to apply Xpel!
