The drawing says a* is the alignment mark and is 25 degrees counter-clockwise from horizizontal. Is that where you put it?

Yes I verified with the mechanic and aftwr doing the process that they indeed point directly to eachother before performing work on the right head

Just found this pic I took of the timing before we installed the engine

After timing the right head I notice the marks on the left head do not align any more, is this correct? I pointed red arrows at them

Then You can see the marks on the right head are pointing straight at eachother tho

I have been going through it
I'm not the mechanic, just trying to back check everything one by one WITH my mechanic

My apologies but from what I gathered, when he has installed everything all the marks align perfectly. It is when he spins the crank to cycle the engine is then when the marks go off on the left head

I had the same issue during my forged build . Was off one tooth except on bank 1 intake. I'm very meticulous and not sure how. When I removed timing cover it was like a slap in the face it was so obvious. U my friend are off one tooth. Put back correctly and she popped off and idled perfectly. No damage. Though before I found it I was getting a p0011. Make sure crank position is correct before releasing bank 2 tensioner though. There was a tech tip for timing set up released by toyota on tis if u can find it. If not I could email it to u. Good luck.
