FYI the Demon comes standard with harness seat belts (that you can install/remove at your will).

Haha wish that was the case but it's never that simple. There's a reason at the track even with a full 5/6-pt harness and a cage, you're still required to wear a helmet. You never know how much movement there will be within the cabin and what components will bend/break in a wreck.

Ultimately if you're willing to risk street-driving a caged car without full safety equipment, that's up to you but I'd never recommend it to anyone I cared about based on what I've seen and read.

Who is going to add the safety equipment to this to be able to do the runs? I'm guessing to get in the 9's you will have to get the demon crate, option not to get the other seats and the stereo and be running 100 octane. Then to be able to actually be allowed to run they have to chop it up with a roll cage and destroy their precious collectors value? At that point just get a cobra jet, copo, or drag pack for a little more money and run 8's. Hopefully owners will be allowed to run these if they show up not in full attack mode. Most owners will probably opt to get the passenger seat and the stereo, will order the demon crate but never install it, and will be using 91 or 93 octane at all times. It will probably still beat most anything with a license plate in that config. If this thing it just straight up banned then they should have made it slower.

All your crumple zones and airbag restraints are messed up by a cage. People think that a cage is extra protection when in street type collisions it can just turn a very safe car into a death trap. All that force that is supposed to be dissipated is now directed straight into your fragile body.
Yet people still install them in street cars all the bloody time. I have heard "Oh the harness will protect me" many times. My standard response is "yes, it will make your body recovery that much easier".

Yeah that's a good point too.

I remember a few years ago at the track, a rep for a safety equipment manufacturer came by to talk about aftermarket equipment. His advice was that all the safety equipment in your car is designed to work as a system. If you're going to put in your own safety equipment, you should generally take out all the OEM stuff (airbags, seatbelts, seats, etc.) and put in a full safety system of your own (cage, harnesses, fixed buckets, HANS, fire suppression, nomex, gloves, helmet, etc.) Otherwise you're safer just sticking with the OEM stuff that's designed to work together as a unit.

That presentation convinced my friend not to get a harness bar/seats until he was ready to put in a cage and convert his car to a full-on track car.

REGARDLESS, none of that makes the car illegal for street use.

Can't speak for all States or Provinces but they are not illegal here no. Good luck getting insurance here though.

Some of you are missing the point. Dodge has their niche market group and what they have just done has them the happiest they could ever be. The talent, engineering AND that extra effort really shows. I bet if Toyota/Subaru did something like this for their niche market no one here would complain. We have been crying for an STI or TRD version since the concept... I think this car is very cool but I like a different driving experience.

Really? because Dodge says so, Ford and Chevy won't feel the need, or desire to compete? Bean counters may not approve the project, and the GT40 and ZR1 having to be top dog may stop them, but you know they want to compete.

Well, technically not from GM but there's the Trans Am Super Duty.

Dodge can make a street legal drag car but we can't get a more power potent 86, right in the feels lol.

And the guys over on the Dodge forum would be saying the people that bought them would be fools.
And although many here may not complain I doubt that most would buy them since they felt they could do better for less money on their own. Not everybody here is crying for more HP.

Not because they say so. Because they are acknowledging an apple is an apple and a grape is a grape. A manufacturer can turn a GTR or a minivan into a drag car if they wanted. Obviously pony cars do get made into drag cars. But with the independent rear suspension and general direction the two are taking with the Mustang and Camero, it would seem an oddity to the market and maybe even too costly for the R&D department to have two directions and two top tier versions of their cars.
