NHTSA does not have it on their schedule for this year according to a note I got from them as an inquiry a couple of months ago.

No paint is reused.
I know mechanics fair better than Subaru's painting practices. I am aware that Indiana is a zero-landfill plant, but the brz/frs are produced in Gunma which I'm sure has the same status or close to it. Subaru's paint jobs have been well discussed on Nasioc but I haven't bothered reading up on it other than a lot of people aren't happy with the paint.

I know they are made in Gunma, but I was citing SIA as a plant most likely to use "recycled paint" as an example.

And yeah, Subaru paint is thin and heavy on orange peel.

What's your definition of inexpensive? I could see this BRZ cracked paint being at least a $400 fix and

$400 is a lot cheaper than $2000+. The CRX example I used earlier would need bumper cover, foam insert, bumper beam, rear hatch glass, the hatch area straightened, and paint from just a 5mph impact.

Yeah, it could be cheaper. But do you really want a bare steel beam hanging off the ends of your car?

Yeah, that's true when comparing it to the 80/90/s CRX which had a very narrow bumper and the hatch had the lower glass section. I know it sucks that a 2.5mph bump can result in $400+ damage. I'm assuming the extra flex when pushing on the lower part of the FR-S bumpers would help absorb more.

Haha... no it's pretty much exactly my car payments.

Canada is pretty crap for insurance. No other company will insure me as I have 1 minor accident but no driving history. Only choice is facility insurance.

Still though... $800 a month? Stop driving and get rid of the car if your record is bad enough to have an insurance payment that high on a 'normal' car...

I think I'll just live with it. Its just cosmetic and not really noticeable from far.

Well my record isn't so bad. Its more of my lack of record coupled with 1 accident. My sister (new driver in the U.S.A. with 2 speeding tickets and an accident) is paying less then both my parents lol...

As a painter myself (although not a very good one and been guilty of my own orange peel), this upsets me.

edit: Maybe I can get a job at Subaru!

Depends where you live. In Saskatchewan, I'm paying $100/month for my insurance. Rates here are probably the cheapest anywhere in Canada because the provincial government is the insurance company.

Couple days ago my car was left out over night and it got freezing rain on her. The next morning she was covered with layer of ice all over. Thick enough to where I had to yank the door open and wipers don't move.. Would that crack my paint if I do that yanking often enough. I didn't think it would. But not really familiar with chemistry side of how the ice sticked to the paint. I just know that I have substance on paint that's hydrophobic and it shouldn't happen as water would be cohesive.

Hey let's all keep in mind that $800 per month for him is probably CAD$800, which is something like US$0.50 per month after the exchange rate.

Hey just saw this.... not sure who you have insurance through or if you have a bad driving record or what but $800 is insane.

I assume you're a young guy since you say you are still in school. Give TD insurance a try. You can get a free quote online.

I'm 23 (so still in the high insurance zone) and I have a clean record. I pay $240 a month for my insurance.

I bet TD would be better no matter what... After getting my quote I told my parents and the immediately switched and they are saving something like $200 a month. Give it a try!
