Oil Temp on Harry's Lap Timer - iPhone Version

Are there any iPhone users with Harry's Lap Timer (HLT) who have figured out how to see oil temperature?

I see that the oil temp was added to the Android version of the app: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...t=48010&page=5

I checked the Harry's forum and tried posting, but no answer yet: http://forum.gps-laptimer.de/viewtop...=1364&start=10

I'm running a Veepeak Wi-Fi adapter for OBD2 info, and it works great with the DashCommand app on my iPhone 6 Plus.

I'd really like to get oil temp right in HLT, so I don't have to run 2 devices/2 apps.

The OBD2 readout from Harry's is attached for reference. I have the Petrolhead version of HLT. Also planning to run an XGPS150 over bluetooth for faster GPS updates.

Are you sure Petrolhead displays oil temp? Maybe you need to upgrade?
I use GrandPrix and it's displayed just fine right away, allthough I don't use it anymore since I switched to Pivot DualGauge.

For the record, I asked Harry on Facebook why some Android users were seeing oil temp, and I wasn't seeing this info on iOS. Here's his response:

Quote:
This is no Android / iOS item - both versions have the same OBD capabilities. Many cars do not provide oil temperature using the standard oil temp PID, but use some custom PIDs. Custom PIDs are not yet supported by LapTimer but scheduled for v21 or v22. In addition to this LapTimer capability, the custom PIDs for individual car models (like the FR-S) will be required. Car manufacturers keep this information secret.
I followed up to see if this might be a difference in OBD2 devices, or Bluetooth vs. Wi-Fi, and Harry said:

Quote:
No, it is the car. For your FR-S the manufacturer decided to not map oil temperature to OBD II. From the list above you can see 015C is missing.
I don't get why some of our cars show this info, and some don't. Maybe a difference in model year as far as how PIDs are sent via OBD2.

Oh, and Petrolhead will show oil temp on the timer screen if it's available. Grand Prix is the only version where you can overlay this info on a video though.

Very strange! I know @Tor uses HLT in his 2013 GT86 (I'm guessing also sees oil temps?)
Also wouldn't that mean that you couldn't/shouldn't see the oil temp with any other app either?

@brzest - it just means that app designers need to add the specific PID for our cars.
Torque works on Android.
DashCommand on iOS works, but it's an extra $10 for the 86 specific PIDs.

According to an 86 related Facebook group post, oil temp doesn't work on Harry's Lap Timer for 2013 model year cars. There was a firmware update for 2014 and later cars that shows oil temp on iOS. I can confirm that oil temp works in Harry's on a 2017 BRZ with an iPhone 6 Plus.

That sucks, it got added for Android at some point fwiw so it's not impossible, I remember posting a few years ago that I couldn't get it to work but loaded it up a few weeks back and there it was.

@strat61caster - you're seeing oil temp on a 2013? That's good news!

Yup, here's a screenshot of the data export I used to do a video overlay, the only problem is for autox it only exported data at 1Hz so rather worthless other than an approximate top speed for one section I tried a few ways. There's probably a way to jack up the data rate but from what I can tell Harry's pretty much fixes it's rate at the same as the GPS and it doesn't want to be overridden.

Next time I think I'll run Torque, yeah it's not a smart program and I won't grab GPS data out of it but I'd rather have 10+ Hz of throttle and speed and I'm manually syncing and analyzing in RaceRender anyway because I'm cheap so only benefits to switching as far as I'm concerned.

But Harry's is a solid track laptimer that you can use to pick out some big stuff. Sorry, went off on a tangent, I'm just looking for ways to stave off dropping $500 on Solo Storm+hardware.

fwiw, warm day, the coolest IAT was ~90F, oil hit ~230F during a ~60s run so I understand the concern. Coolant rock solid though at 95C max. Right now I'm of the opinion that the oil can take most amateur motoring including a 20-30 minute hot track session based on the used oil analysis I've done.

I've had good luck using the Dual XGPS150 with Harry's Lap Timer. Gives you a 5 Hz data rate instead of 1 Hz, and only $80: http://amzn.to/2xz2z5o

QStarz is the most recommended one I've seen and it's only $2 more for double the frequency than the Dual XGPS you link. Same list price of $99.

Oil temps display on Harry's (Grand Prix Edition) on an iPhone 6 on on my 2013 FR-S using a BT1A OBDII adapter.

@jjaisli - good to know. I solved the problem by selling my 2013 and getting a 2017. LOL
