Did you have someone else push down on the hood while you're trying to pull the cable ... ??

Sorry, I have to ask ....... you are pulling on the cable inside the cable housing and not the cable housing itself ...... ??

Ok, so how do we FIX this problem?

Seems like there should be a grommet/nut ala bicycle brakes to tighten the cable, but there isn't.

Is it the fault of the spring, or the cable? I presume it's the cable being stretched. This is immensely annoying since I just came from a 2000 Celica that had the same exact problem and now my BRZ needs two people to open the hood!

Ahrghh.

Fer cryen out loud, folks, it's a mechanical hood latch ...... they have been around for years! It's not some new fangled ECU controlled piece of rocket science!

Sorry ...... I must have forgot one of ma meds this morning ......

chipmcdonald, what I would do if I were you, would be to first look at the hood latch piece that hangs down from the hood. Is it straight..?? If not, tap it with a hammer till it is. Are the two bolts that hold it in place tight .. ?? If not, tighten them. Now, take a smidgeon of heavy waxy type stuff (like door ease) and place it on the bottom of the metal hoop (where the latch hits it).

Now, I suggest that you make sure the 3 bolts an the latch mechanism are tight. Squirt some WD-40 or silicone spray on the moving parts of the latch mechanism.

Pull the cable a few times with the hood open.

Now, does it work better .... ??

Come back ........

Make sure you lube the hood latch when you get it open too. I always wondered why my hand gets all greasy every time I open my hood, and if all of these cars just came that way. Now I'm guessing the previous owner had this problem at some point.
