By the way, one thing I did see on the California law is that repeat offenses of the missing front plate can end up with you being charged with a misdemeanor and even serving jail time.

Now that would be something to complain about!

Sounds like that didn't play into it then.

Not to poke fun at the situation, but this reminds me of when my kid gets in trouble and gives me the, "but Jimmy did it too". I just think to myself if that's his actual response, he needs to try harder. It won't make a difference on how I discipline him. The other kid might get it worse or not. It's still within the confines of parenting. Again I know it's a different situation.

OP it sucks that you may get a harsher punishment than what others may have gotten before you. I would consider it a lesser offense than many other possibilities. Like the others have said, dress real nice and go into court with a positive attitude. The judge may change it to a basic fix-it ticket. Would that be justice enough for you?

Then look at it this way. You got away with it for 10 years so the fine is only $17 a year. The law is not set up as a progressive system where you should automatically get a warning the first time and advance from there.

couple hundred buck instead of $25.

I am not causing problem, he is looking for problem.
Cruising around 65-70 on sunny day, mustang flying by me speeding, and he was decided to wait in front of me and give me a non-correctable license plate ticket? Where is justice? god bless America.

Own up to it and pay the ticket. I've had no front plate tickets and I just paid them. No big deal, I obviously am supposed to have two and I have one.... I know the potential risk, and it is obvious you do too. So what if he chose to give you a bigger fine, man up.

Yes sir?
No, sir
Yes, sir you are right
I will get on it immediately sir, I'm sorry and I'll fix it, sir
Yes, sir
Yes, sir
Thank you sir, have a nice day.

I'm guessing the conversation went NOTHING like that and is why the OP got the ticket and not the warning. Just a guess.

The first time I was pulled over at the young age of 16, I was issued a moving violation for speeding. No warnings for me and I took it in stride. It didn't matter what the flow of traffic was, I was still speeding. I think it was 2/3 points and around a $300 fine. He could've been lenient and just given me a warning but didn't. Oh well.

And if that happens, I'll take responsibility for it instead of placing the blame on the cop for doing his job.

When you break the law, you're gambling on whether or not you get caught. You got caught, pay your fine and move on.

Well, shit. For some reason, I'm not especially feeling "law" in this country right now.

I'm gonna guess the harsher ticket was caused by the same thing causing the negative responses in this thread...

I've never driven in cali so I'm not sure about the laws. Just googled it a bit. Looks like with any other kind of ticket, you can get off easy if you just do the right things and go to court.

So fix your front plate, get dressed professionally, and go to court. Don't insult the police, complain about the law, or any of that while in front of the judge. Ask why you were given a non-correctable ticket rather than demand it be downgraded to a fix-it ticket. Good luck.

California is cracking down on plate violations (even enacting new laws about dealer plates and such) so I'm not really surprised they may be moving to not correctable for this.

*goes to put front plate back on*
