2017 BRZ Incline/Brake Assist?

Pardon me if this question has been answered already or if the subject has already had light shed on. While looking up some things about this car I found This and noticed that it stated "Stick novices will also find the 2017 Subaru BRZ coupe's incline start assist helpful.".

I haven't seen this information on any of the media or brochures provided by Subaru and haven't read anything about this on the FT86 forums either. Are there any 2017 owners that can clarify? I like how salesmen have very little answers about these cars in general let alone new features on the 2017 version.

I don't much care about the technology myself but with my wife being quite the novice still with the clutch it would be immensely helpful for her. In practice she does well but always thinks of a worst case scenario where someone is on her ass and she is going to roll back into them or put the power down to hard and wreck into something.

I don't own the car yet and have yet to test drive one.

What is your actual question?

Basically it doesn't release the brakes on a hill for a couple seconds. It is more annoying than anything, but you quickly get used to it ( have the same system on my forester).

oh it affects the brakes? I thought it just senses that you're on an incline and just increases the engine revs slightly as you release the clutch. I've never had a car with hill assist so I wouldn't know though.

I had a WRX with hill assist and would notice it everyday on a hill on my normal commute.
Never experienced it working on my BRZ yet on the hill on my commute.

Sorry, to be more specific I wasn't sure that the 2017 BRZ had this equipped or not. I understand how it works and I'm happy to know that it will be included. I have been browsing the site and found "17MY BRZ Spec.pdf" it does list that hill start assist is standard on the new models.

I found that pdf to be a good read of the differences in the models.

The default setting is off. If you want it on you have to activate it.

Well that's good.
It was annoying turning it off on the WRX since the default is on and had a stupid warning light.

I have never experienced one so have no clue what it is like. I have a strong feeling that it would be a pain in the ass if you are used to starting out without it but could be handy for those that currently need to use the handbrake.

It's definitely annoying if you're used to driving MT without it.
You either have to give it more gas/clutch or get a feel for the delay when the brake hold releases if you want a smooth start.

I have had it on 2 cars. While it isn't something I need, it is a good feature. So, when you stop and shift to neutral, the brake holds for a few.seconds as you release the clutch to go into first. It is activated in WRX's by default, but the manual provides instruction to deactivate if need be. I never found it to be an annoyance and it might actually slightly extend the life of the clutch. It makes sense that it was finally added to the BRZ and I guess that's why it is also in the USDM 86.

Think of a new driver rolling back while starting in first gear, that is probably who will most benefit from it.
