Cheapest way to get better bass

First off I am no audio aficionado. My stock system with under seat subwoofer in my 2004 WRX is still fine for my purposes after all these years. However, when I listen to the same songs in my BRZ, you realize how there is no bass in the car. I have not found an under-seat woofer that would work, the subaru stock one for the trunk is about 6-700 installed and my local guy wants about 700 for his woofer in the trunk.

Any ideas on a cheaper way? As I said not looking for the best, just need some bass.

Also I listen to rock and alternative.

Kicker CompRT81, Kicker PXA200.1, Pioneer UDSW200D box, Metra 70-1761 and 71-1761 wiring harnesses, and some 8ga power and ground wire from any car audio shop.

I don't specifically know about the sub, but I can tell you the speakers AND tweeters are absolute garbage.

The stock woofers are super light and crappy feeling. If you look at the rears, there will be big globs of glue spilled onto the cone.

The WRX by comparison, has a decent sound out of the stock system (with or without a sub).

I've had the OEM Audio Plus put in both my BRZs. Makes it sound so good. The woofers themselves are about 3 x the weight of the stock ones.

If you're lucky you might be able to pick up the kit for $1084.28 USD ($1500 AUD), but might be higher than you want to spend.

Honestly the first thing is a better head unit. That usually makes everything sound better. You should check out DIYMA.com, there are tons of different inexpensive audio options, and some of them are actually worth it.

The cheapest and fastest way is to get an all in one unit. As many people have mentioned Walmart is your best bet. Something under $300 or $200 will do the trick. A simple wiring kit the subwoofer combo and an hour later you'll have that low end sound you want.

You can YouTube how to wire the amp the car. That's what I did. Took me an hour or so.

Pick up an old/used/cheap 10" non powered bazooka tube. Stuff an Alpine Type X 10" in, hook to the amp of your choice, and enjoy! Even with stock everything else, this setup works quite well for Rock, Country, R&B, Hip-Hop, and a bit of classical as well.

New Pioneer AVH head unit and wiring from Amazon.com: $400
Used 8" Bazooka Sub from Craigslist: $60
Dynamat from Amazon.com: $60

1. Head unit first; as stated above. This gets rid of about 95% of the door speaker rattles. Just by doing this, many people would think you had replaced your speakers.

2. Disable your rear speakers and route wires from the head unit directly to a Bazooka subwoofer. Change the rear speaker setting on your head unit to "subwoofer".

3. Apply dynamat in areas that were most prone to rattle: rear license plate, front door speakers, and rear deck.

Notes:
-You will not miss those rear speakers as they don't have much output; they're similar like surround speakers in a home theater.
-For whatever reason, the head unit powered the Bazooka better than the Bazooka's internal amp did. You can try either or to see which is better.
-And for track days, the wiring on my Bazooka is quick release.

I did this with a couple of buddies and some beer. Easily one of my favorite mods of 2016.

Would I still need the Metra harnesses if I'm using an amp that doesn't have a 10-pin connector? Such as this Rockford Fosgate R500X1D

The Metra harnesses aren't for the amp, they're for the OEM wiring harness. They aren't absolutely necessary, but using them lets you build a no-cut solution so you can revert to OEM if you ever decide to sell your car or change your system.

Ok, cool. The black 10-pin plug going into your Kicker amp in your link - did that harness come with the amp? if so, is it normal for an amp to come with the proper harness?

The harness came with it. That amp is actually made for motorcycles. Physically small amps like that will always have a harness instead of embedded RCA connections because it takes less space. The other amp I was looking at for my doors and surrounds, an Alpine KTP-445U, had the same setup.
