I feel like a re-badged BMW is a cop-out answer for the new Supra. The Gen III and Gen IV Supras were such iconic cars. I was really hoping that the new Supra would be something similar. Not to mention, BMW is an odd choice to bring over and re-badge.

This thread jumps from clickbait to Scion badging, then to a mix of both, then to the S-FR, then to the 2018 BMW Supra.

Just another day on FT86Club.

Not rebadge, but shared chassis. I would not be unhappy with a TT BMW 6 cylinder. Those engines develop impressive hp and tq.

wish list for the supra: light weight, RWD, 400 plus hp, and NO hybrid tech.
In other words ..... An 86 on steroids. Cost: entry level corvette money.

...sorry, it is indeed a huge cop out for Toyota, this is THEIR halo car whereas the Z isn't BMW's. Toyota is having some of their best financial years right now, profits are more than any other car manufacturer yet they need help from BMW? And to be clear, this is to help BMW, not Toyota...BMW sales are stagnating whereas Lexus sales have gone up.

Toyota just released their new platform and new chassis with the LC500 so I sincerely figured they were going to repeat what they did with the platform sharing between the original SC and MKIV Supra but with each passing rumor and the couple mules we've seen it appears this is not the case..

I thought more people would have been upset at all these rumors yet it appears plenty of people are happy to jump on this boring collaboration...so we get a watered down FT1 design (side view mirrors integrated into the window? really? gross..), we lose the +2 seating, we will arguably inherit BMW reliability and repair/maintenance costs, we can't call our car JDM..what else am I missing?

..this is exactly like the ND Miata/Alfa collab where Toyota is Alfa...ain't exciting especially when Honda and Nissan have continued their halo cars on their own. I guess the BMW Z line is more important than the Supra lineage.

I agree with most of what you said. Not sure why they didn't go with the available Lexus chassis (maybe too soft???). It could get worse. They could have really been lazy and stuffed a WRX turbo motor in the new supra.

I think you're in luck and they won't call it a Supra.

Ah, classic design choices pioneered by the industry leading General Motors.

Oh hey, they even tanked Scion just like GM tanked Saturn and Pontiac!
